Toyota Next Big Suv -- Is it the 2023 Sequoia?

Toyota’s about to unveil a new “big” SUV and, with the Land Cruiser sidelined in North America, we hope it’s the third-gen Sequoia!

Not much hard news to report, but Toyota rolled out a teaser image for its “next big” SUV this morning, making us wonder if what we’re seeing is the long-rumored 2023 Sequoia refresh. Here’s what Toyota had to say:

Taking a look at the teaser image, our first thought is 2023 Toyota Sequoia. As MotorTrend reported last fall, we expect to see a new Sequoia for the 2023 model year, based largely on the 2022 Toyota Tundra, but with an independent rear suspension. When this happens, the new Sequoia will sport all of the new features and updates, including the i-Force 3.5-L twin-turbo V-6 making 389 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. And if we’re lucky, we’ll also see the hybrid i-Force Max option making 437 horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. of torque. (Huzzah!)

But comparing the teaser image to the 2022 Sequoia, is there enough room behind the rear passenger door for a Sequoia-sized third-row seat? Perhaps, without the Land Cruiser, the third-generation Sequoia won’t be as large as the second. Still, if you’ve ridden in a Land Cruiser or Lexus LX, the third rows are practically unusable for adult passengers. We’re hoping the new Sequoia isn’t losing too much valuable real estate.
