The automaker has confirmed that a manual will continue to be offered in the all-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma.

As we await the official debut of the all-new, next-generation 2024 Toyota Tacoma, its maker has been keeping us on our toes by releasing multiple teasers showing off various bits and pieces of the redesigned mid-size pickup. This far, those include a peek at the TRD Pro model’s tailgate, revealing that this off-road-focused model will come equipped with a hybrid powertrain, the presence of a removable JBL Flex speaker, rear disc brakes, Fox shocks for the TRD Pro, and the availability of a cool new variant – the overlanding-focused 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter. Now, yet another 2024 Toyota Tacoma teaser has dropped, this time confirming that the new pickup will be available with a manual transmission.

Toyota has confirmed that those who prefer to row their own will be able to do so in the next-gen Tacoma via a six-speed gearbox, which is both great and somewhat surprising news. We say surprising because manual transmissions have long been falling out of favor among everyone except enthusiasts, and with take rates low, many manufacturers have eliminated them altogether.

That isn’t the case in the world of off-road-focused vehicles, however, where models like the Ford Bronco still offer a manual for those that prefer them out on the trails. Thus, it makes perfect sense that Toyota would want to also continue to build and sell a row-your-own version of its popular mid-sizer.

As for the rest of the 2024 Tacoma, it’s getting a rather massive and overdue makeover from top to bottom. The new mid-size pickup will reportedly ride on the same TNGA-F platform as its big brother, the Tundra, and offer at least two powertrain options – the turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder present in the 2023 Highlander, which churns out 265 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque in that model, as well as a turbo 2.4-liter four-cylinder hybrid already used by the Lexus RX 500h, which makes 366 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque.
