    Hi Tennessee.
Started a 3 rebuild myself last spring, ran into issues, etc. Just now getting back to it. Re-reading your build, it's been a good year since last post; and seems like you had about 25k on that last re-do. So a yr later, and another 25 or so? How is it holding up?
Q: The machining was the missing key? I had my block done last April, forget reasons, but he bored it, had me get pistons, etc. Did not deck it. Trying to assemble in Oct and had .022" ring gap. took to another shop, and he said it was sloppy work, but within specs on boring. So aside from trying to choose what to do on that, now wondering if the original $450 for work was wasted, or should I take it and have heads and deck cut. Of course, then would have to figure out how to contend with H-bolt issues... Oy.
Thanks for your advice. Probably oughta put this in a post. Might be a month before I get back to Midland to work on it.

    You're welcome!

It won't hurt to leave as is until you are able to figure out what the issue is. Mine has been unplugged for a year~

You'll have to fix it if the do emission testing in your area.

I'm not certain about the predetonation, but if it has stopped, I would guess that was the problem!

Hey man, thanks for your advice on the egr vaccum hose, it fixed my trucks problem, however i cant jusst ride around with it unplugged can I? Do i need a new EGR? and could this have been the cause of my retardation of my timing causing my predetonation?

How did a southern boy wind up in maryland? Anyway, do you still have the pics from your hg replacement. If so, could you email them to me, rwyatt@email.itt-tech.edu ? I appreciate the advice to check out the thread, but the pics are no longer there (or just aren't loading for me). The thread has been a great help in planning. btw, what part of TN are you from?

I plugged it with epoxy glue on the pump side & just cut the hoses off short & stuck a bolt in each of them (there are two).
