Are you computer savy?

If so, I need some help with my camera.

Its a old olympus c-50 zoom (got for free from airmiles) It has worked great for VERY long but a few months ago, it stopped uploading, when I plugged it in, the little dealy on the bottom of my screen (safely remove hardwear) came up, the computer saw that it was plugged in, but nothing happend..

All of a sudden about 2 months after that it started to work again.. whatever.
Then last night I try to plug my friends camera into my computer, and it happens.. I just thought that I since I didn't install anything for his camera then it wouldnt work (that made no sence now..)
So I go to upload new pictures I took today and ... guess what
IT freakin happens again!!
The camera will light up as it always does, the computer see's that it is there but no window pops up to let me upload the pictures..

I have lost the original softwear but that has never been a problem.

anyone got any suggestions?

Just a couple of questions, what operating system are you using? If windows XP or 2000 double click on "My Computer" and see if your camera is listed in there. It should be on the bottom of the window. If its not listed, it could be a number of other problems...

My video camera also went kaput right before this one did, but unlike this one my computer does not even see the camera..

I was thinking it might be my firewire cable but I tried using the usb port..no luck.

My friends said I fried somthing ( think I might have plugged it in while it was on ) in the camcorder..

Me and computers dont mix!

Go to OLYMPUS.COM and look up drivers and find the correct driver for your camera and download them to your computer again that should fix your issues.

Oh now Doc...

Both of my Olympus cameras (C-2020z, C-5050z) - and all the other cameras with USB ports I've ever used - present as a USB hardrive, no drivers required for XP, and in fact, you should NOT install that Olympus (or Canon, or Kodak, or Sony...) software. That stuff is all about making your media experience brain dead.

I have more Mac's than PCs running these days at home (4:2) but this isn't a Windows vs Mac OS issue.

Jay... what's changed on your machine in the last few moon phases? Does the C-50 have removable media, and thus can you pull it and use an external reader instead?

Well nothing on my computer has been changed for probibly 2-3 years!
I uninstalled the software they sent me because frankly it sucked I could not send my pictures anywhere but their stupid folder.

I is doing it more often but usually if I switch usb cables back and forth it will work again..

I guess I should go buy an external card reader and be done with it..

and by the way.. I don't like mac's

Right click suckah

I equate that with people who don't like Toyota's...one of these days you will figure out what works. And by the way you apparently don't like PC's either.

Stay away from Lexar card readers, they can be kind of fickle about the cards they read.

Jay351 Computer
MACs have just as many issues as PCs. I Know - I have MACs, PCs, LUNIX, HP and SGI and they all have issues.

Dude - Your not helping the issue here so lay off.

Jay351 - your best course of action would be to go here: https://emporium.olympus.com/studioM...pusMaster.aspx get the latest Olympus software.

Olympus doesn't exactly conform to USB standards so the drivers are easily corrupted. Since you said you plugged your buddies camera into your machine I'm not surprised it is having fits.

I have the same issue. For me it is a loose usb cable. The cable just doesn't fit tightly in the usb port. if I wiggle the cable the pc finds the camera.

Before telling me to "lay off" maybe you should read my whole post! I did give some suggestions on card readers, and part of the issue is probably system related. Windows is not as stable as the Mac OS, and MACS are much better at peripheral compatability since they don't need "Drivers". I have 12 PC's at my business and two Macs, the PC's have problems and compatability issues every day, the only issue I have had with my macs is a battery issue on my laptop. While it may not be the anwer he was looking for, and was partly meant as a joke (all these PC issues crack me up), it would most likely make his photography life easier.

By the way I believe it is LINUX....
