Quick CB radio help Cobra 18

So i got this awhile ago and quickly installed, it works, but didnt transmit. I think i traced the problem back to putting the orange, and red wires on the same positive wire. So now im trying to sort it out, and i put them on seperate wires, but I hvae no one to test it with, so

when you transmit, does your TX light come on, and thats it, or does TX come on, then the signal strength indicator go to red too? Mine used to hvae both every time, but now only the TX comes on mostly, but thats because the wires haven't been soldered i think. Before i solder it in, what does yours say when you transmit?

the organe and red wires on the back of the unit have NOTHING to do with transmitting the are only for power.
your MIC cord has a broken wire in the handset or the connector or the cable itself
been there a 100000000 times
it more then likely happened because it got moved too much when its cold

If you're really interested in looking at it's performance, invest in an inexpensive SWR/power meter. The meter will tell you how much power you're putting out, and tell you if your antenna is set up correctly.

Do a search and I'm sure there's tons of info our there on optimizing your signal output. Just because your antenna is hooked up correctly, doesn't mean your getting maximum performance from it.

just get close to the highway and say break 19 for radio check.... any truckeer thats close should hear ya and respond, ask it a few times, and if no one responds, then your not transmitting, its free and effective
