Suggestions for more bass
So the stereo in my truck sucks. I replaced the 4" speakers, but they suck even worse. I'm planning on getting a good HU, so now I need speaker suggestions. I don't want a sub, I just want a good speaker set up. Any suggestions? I think the 4" speakers in the dash are ok. Does anyone know about putting 6x9's in the rear? It's an extended cab. Thanks for the help...

I did some checking around and I found a decent HU that puts out 18x4 watts, and some 6 3/4 in speakers for the front doors and some 5 1/4 in speakers for the rear. Crutchfield says the front speakers will work with some modification, but i've read on some threads about people using 5 1/4 speakers in the rear. they're 55 watt RMS in the rear and 80 watt RMS in the front. would that work or should I look for lower watt speakers? I'm not going to add an amp.

this really is a matter of preference, and looking up reviews on crutchfield or google. I run Pioneers all the way around, wouldnt recommend them for what you are looking for. You wont get too much good bass response without a sub. You can hook up subs w/o an amp and still get a much better bass response than you would without a sub. If youre going all the way around and doing a new head unit, i would say do it right the first time and add some bass to your set up.
I think this more of a preference issue...just my .02

You should really look into a 4 channel amp. maybe a 50 x4 or 60x4...quality speakers and a good head unit. I always deal with Crutchfield for my car stereo equipment. head units really underpower speakers. is your truck an extended cab? Pop out those storage unit doors bellow the quarter glass...get a piece of Luan from Lowes or Home Depot. trace the doors that you took out on the Luan...cut them out and install them where the doors used to be with some screws. you can easily fit a 6.5 speaker in there. Carpet or paint the luan to match. Should give you a decent full sounding system

I run 4" 120w pioneers up front and kenwood 3way 160w 6x9's in the rear. sounds great, I'm about due for new 6x9's though, these have seen 3 different vehicles. I'm thinking about buying a marine set from JBL. a buddy of mine runs them in his boat and they have great response.
but yeah your not gonna get bass unless you run a sub. maybe think about looking into a bazooka tube or a free air sub so you don't have a huge box.
