Accessing front speakers 2nd 4runner

Before I have a go at it - I need to replace the front speaker (driver side). Do I need to dismantle a lot of the front dash inorder to access the front speaker? - Or can I just remove the LOWER FINISH PANEL no. 1 (below the steering wheel) on it's own?

I just needed to ask before I start - I have a tendency to break more things than repair them...

Thanks

simple stuff.

all you have to do is remove all the screws labeled E. there are 5 on the left and 5 on the right (3 on the top, 2 on the bottom - both sides). on the right side, the upper screws are accessed from the inside of the glove box. for the top 3, you'll need a phillips screwdriver. for the bottom, you need a 10mm socket. pop of the the plastic piece around the ignition (no tools needed) and then remove the dash pieces to get at the speakers. voila.

watch for a small clip on the drivers side, you may have to slide the panel towards the drivers seat to disengage the clip. im presuming it is the same as the passenger side. just go slow and look close as you start to remove it. you should need to remove only the 5 screws, 'e' on the drivers side to get at the dead speaker.

Since you mentioned a propensity towards breaking things: the hood and gas door lever are over there and the fittings on the ends of the cables like to break really easily if stressed in the wrong direction so take it easy with them.
I don't remember all the details offhand, but I think you can remove each before removing the cover itself and that helps a lot in not getting them in a bad position.
