I know Im really new here and dont have a whole lot to put but something I think would be helpfull to us Newbies since we like to find aftermarket parts for our rigs is this. First I like to see what a product looks like on my type of truck before I buy it, with that said maybe a section where you could choose a category: suspension lifts, body lifts, wheels, tires, bumpers, sliders, intakes, exhaust, etc. and in that section is strictly just pictures of what the rigs look like and a brief description of product name, number, and possibly place of purchase. Then we can see what certain mods look like. It might help wind down so many of the newbie questions. And then if further information is wanted it could be resorted to PM or searching the forums. Just my idea. It kinda goes hand-in-hand with the parts list, but mainly for aftermarket stuff.

I really like all the previous mentioned ideas too.

rk, certain people could have rights to be the only ones to post in an area, much like the "Check out my truck" area.

Wiki tiki, I am behind the times on that.
I have seen a few sights, but have not really looked at how they work.

You know we have pod casting ability here too?
Not really sure on how it works though, but it is a feature of the new VB.

Now what abut keeping the FAQ to each year/rig section?

Good Times already has one started in the 4th gen 4Runner section, and I am working on one for the FJC section.

Howbeit our two look totaly different from each other.

That's not a bad idea - I like what Lance is doing, but I think the classic style of a FAQ (or a Wiki) is easier to wander though.

Who has pre-runners? No one cares about that. Also, everyone hates you! >:-(

(I kid, I kid...)

On a more serious note, what differences would you like to highlight that are PreRunner specific? Almost all the tech involved on PreRunners is the same as 4wd (except the notable lack of a 4wd system).

I've always been behind a Wiki. We've had it come up at least two times before, although I don't remember what ever came of the last time.

I'd go the other direction and keep the standard Wikipedia-style access: everyone (even anyonymous) has access to just about everything. IPs are monitored, so IP blocks are easy for spammers. Also, with everyone having access, anyone can get rid of spam and graffiti. You can always go back to a previous revision, so fixing things is very easy. We could always have a test run and, if it becomes to difficult to mange, axe it.

Really other than a lack of a 4WD system, nothing.
But its a great place for the PreRunner people, its (anyone with a prerunner is never gonna let me live this down) like a place for the kids to play while the big boys talk shop.
Just a seperate place for us to talk about trails that are fun for 2WD guys, and things that may be great for 2WD that are boring or not so good for 4WD.

Chris, I will bring that up later.

Please note I am not rushing into implementing any of this right now, just gathering ideas for when we have time to do certain stuff.
The forum is always evolving here.

Gosh, I remember some of the first posts here when Chris and I opened up shop.
"What is the best tire shine?"
I think we have come a long way since the old days.

I was hoping to put together an example of what I want, but I haven't, so I'll describe it.

There are a number of items that people want to see lots of different designs of. In my current case, it's a 3rd gen rear bumper design. Rather than search through 27,463 threads, I'd like to see a summary page that has a bunch of designs gathered from members or vendors, with links back to the describing threads or vendors web sites.

(one of my annoyances is when you *find* just the perfect thread, the pictures in it are no longer where they were linked from)

I think common ones would be front/rear bumper designs for various generations of trucks and runners, sliders, post-lift shots?, ...

Downside would be that it would have to be a moderated/updated series of pages, upside would be saving some of us a TON of searching.

You are welcome Paul.

Best tire shine?
When, and I do say when, I use to use Meguiars Endurance, as it lasted more than two weeks.

These new Dick Cepek Mountaincat mud tires I have must have something in the carcass, never seen tires this dark and stay that way even when dirty.

I got these tires 9-11-06, and they have only been washed a few times since it was getting near fall.

They refuse to get dingy and brown like most other tires.
They look great all the time like they were just Ajaxed, strange.
Gotta be something Cooper Tires is putting into them.

I have some wiki info from Midiwall, just have not had time to look into it yet.
Never enough time.

Coming home today from work I forgot what day it was
Seriously, the days just fly by for me.
Boeing keeps me very busy, and the weeks fly by.

Now if only the weekends would not do that.

Get New filtering

A little searching around led me to this:
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91025

Basically, it looks like a feature that allows you to select what forums you are interested in for the "Get New" operation. I don't know diddley about vBulletin, but it looks like it's at least possible.

I personally would like to have two... a "Get New (filtered)" and a "Get New".

Another one I came across was a hack to allow you to have a Get New that only searched through your subscribed forums. Either or those would be lovely!

Being a guy it is hard to admit this but I am not the most mechanical person on the planet. I would love to learn more about how to do alot of my own work on my truck and HAVE learned alot since joining this site almost a year ago. However alot of the threads are extremely technical and quite frankly I don't understand some of them.
Maybe if we added a little more to our newbie section with some basic terminology and some of the more basic how to's of maintenance we could help some of our mechanically challenged YT'ers (including myself) out.

Other than that, I LOVE this friggin site and I can't wait till I am posting my own buildup thread!

i think the off topic threads are getting out of hand. just me tho.

buying guides would be good. this would prevent most "what lift" "what tires" "what radio" "what xxx" threads that pop up day after day.

also user submitted reviews of items. follow the lead of www.bit-tech.net and provide reviews on hardware so to speak. even tools and such.

User submitted reviews is a great idea. So is keeping them short and sweet and having a thread say for each part.

Yeah... Corey's been looking into it. He & I have been tossing some PM's around about Wiki's and how to integrate them in the forum.

Honestly, I think the easiest way is to not integrate it (like TTORA). Something like http://wiki.yotatech.com running on it's own makes the most sense to me. Just my two cents, though.
