Can your 4runner do the golden crack without leafs? Has anyones 3rd generation done it?

You don't need rear leaves to cross the crack. Lots of 3rd Gens have crossed the crack, it just flexes you all the way out.

Yup, I did the Golden crack with coils front and back. However, I had a great deal of flex in the back end, with Downey coils, spacers and Spidertrax upper/lower control arms.

I walked through it much easier than most guys with springs. In fact, the 4Runner seemd to be very well balanced between the front and back, it was pretty impressive.

Schaefer, tonight I'll have the pics of my swap up. The rest of the site is in disarray, but at least you can check out the pics that accompanied my swap.

Last year we had to tug Mike because of the TRAC getting picky. All it does is flex you out and I am more interested to see where your bumper rubs.

I have always been impressed with the crossing in that vid SteveO. One of the solid axle rigs gets ready to roll while your truck only does a wheel stand. I did not feel my own rig stand that much and we did not have anyone near rolling last year.

I think a 4-linked rear like the Gigantor Cruiser with an IFS front would be a waste. My impression is the Chevys will do well, but not just ramp champ good.

Is this mainly due to weight distribution? The 2nd and 3rg gens are definately heavier in the rear than 1st gens or trucks.

BTW, SteveO that video really makes me want to go to Moab!

I don't know what the weight distribution is between the front and back. But it sure seemed like it was pretty well balanced when I went over the Golden Crack.

I'm sure up for another round of Moab. I think I'll have the sliders on by then, plus I'm pretty sure I'll have a another bumper built by then.

Some fun reading while I was killing time, dated 3/25/02:

"At this point I am calling my 4Runner done. I really do not see any point in putting a Marlin crawler or a front ARB locker or Manual hubs on an IFS truck. I'm by no means planning an SAS at all. But, it is clear that this is pretty much as good as it gets."
