My custom anti-sway bar disconnects

Hello all,

Long, long time ago I thought about a little different kind of swaybar discos.

I wanted to do it but it was impossible to loosen the nuts.

That X-Mas I bought an air compressor and a kit of air tools.

With the impact wrench I have been able to loosen the nuts.

Ready to start:

Cutting link and tube:

Ready to weld:

Welded:

Making the hole:

Ready to go:

Testing:

I must buy low profile bump stops:

The link bar is 16mm diameter and the tube I've used is 17mm of inside diameter.

I think the tube is 1.5mm thick.

I bought it in a depot.

Mods from Spain

A nice little write up from the other side of the big pond. Cool!

Looks like you left the boot on there when welding the sleeve(tube) on and it doesn't look like you fried it much. TIG? MIG? Arc? just curious

Got any Spain wheelin' pics? Any rocks over there?

For anyone wondering what the american figures are for the tube, I did the conversions:

16mm = 5/8"
1.5mm = 1/16"

So it looks like you need 5/8" to 11/16" I.D. tube with 1/16" or 1/8" wall to do this mod.
Thanks

don't provide the conversions...that's not helping this country get converted. we need to get rid of this joke of a measument system we have here.

Ahahaha it's a little complicated to me when you say 13/16'', I must divide 13/16 and later multiply by 2.54 to get it in cm.

Anyways I'm used to normal measurements like 1 1/2 or 3'' hehe.

I welded my links with a little welder, I don't know how are they name in English, an electrode one, that with a stick what welds.

I broke one of the front link welds, but noticed it cause I saw it, no difference in handling.

A friend of mine has a better gas welder, I'll redo the links and also make the rear ones.

Now I need some poly bushings for the sway bars and also low profile bumpstops, but its a mess ordering them by phone, We have 6-7 hours of difference and my spoken English it's not perfect... Don't know why but it's difficult to get answered by mail in the States!

I used the pins I bought in a local shop.

They're about 2'' long.

No clicking noises, I made the hole tight. It's a bit difficult to take off the pin, but with a plier it's very easy. The difficult thing is to put them on when the truck is full of mud...

The rubber didn't burn, I made the welds stopping and refreshing the piece with water.

I picked up a length of DOM tube today to do this. Now I just need to find some pins. Do they make Grade 8 pins?
Thanks

"I need to buy low profile bumpstops"

Just get in there with a reciprocating saw and a sharp blade and cut them down. I ran my IFS for a long time that way. no need to buy a thing.

Yeah, it's another option hehe.

Anyways I've the swaybar end link bushings practically destroyed, so I must buy some poly things to the order hehehe.
