homemade front bumper

ok so I want to make a new front bumper to replace my stock bumper and I was wondering if it is possible to use steel pipe from home depot and just cut and weld a bumper out of it or possibly just use the fittings to put it together. has anybody done this if so post some pics and what is your opinion I can get it for $17 for 10' its 1/8 wall 1" ID

If you are only going for looks, then fine (kind of a wierd look though to use fittings). But like dirtoyboy said, probably not strong enough...
