Toyota Wiki
So I'm putting this here since all the content of the wiki will be offroad tech. In about two weeks I'm planning on setting up a site that will host a wiki. I'll add other stuff later but this is my focus. I'm looking for people who are willing to help me add content to the wiki. Whether you're all knowning or just know how to use a wiki, I could use help. I mainly just wanna take all the write ups and info that are out there and compile them in one place. Would be the hell out of the search function. I may be talking to indivual people about converting their write ups and I'll be converting lots of stuff (including the pirate faq). Just respond here or PM. Thanks and hope this works out.

The cool thing about a wiki is that its editable by everyone, so we can all collaborate. It'd basically be an encyclodpedia of toyota knowledge

easily the most famous wiki is http://www.wikipedia.org -- the largest encyclopedia in the history of the world. everything is open-source, and they offer the wiki engine for free, with instructions and such. i've authored an article there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subalpine

A day or two ago wikipedia reached its 1,000,000 article. I just think this could be great for the community. People could find write ups on installs, product reviews, lift options, etc. I don't mean it to take away from the message board, merely to serve as a location to organize information that has been developed/discussed over the message board so it won't have to be rehashed. One good example of such info is the 3rd gen front lift.

1 million articles and I've never heard of this wiki thing?
Where the hell have I been?
I was browsing it and learned a few things about some items of interest. Seems like a helluva idea!

in theory i like the idea, but in part it takes the place of a well-maintained tech article page, of which we have many here. do you conceive of it as distilling some of the final statements about certain issues, needs, techniques, procedures and so on, for instance the axle info sheet, how to change fluids, common problems and their solutions, a VIN decoder, typical lift needed to clear X tires, and so on?
edit: btw, did you buy www.toyotawiki.com, or is it some scammer just waiting for the right buyer?

nope, that's not me, haven't bought anything yet, just kinda seeing what the general feel is for this. I'd like it to kinda of be a source of all the information that has been acquired through various people on the boards. Lifts, maintence, available products, info, measurements, repairs, vehicle history. Pretty much any question you could and would have about a toyota 4runner/truck.

Also, for those that want a familiar Wiki, TTORA's Tech/FAQ section is a wiki:

www.yotawiki.com is open for purchase
I'd be happy to contribute if you get it up and running. I'm not the master mechanic, but I've got stuff to do to my new (old) toy
-valve cover gasket
-steering gearbox change
-idler arm replacement
etc etc etc
I've got a digi camera and the ability to write well and document (college research habits) so let me know if you do it.

I'll probably try to start it up in the beginning of may. Right now I got some health stuff I gotta get figured out so that's my priority. I'm also hoping I can talk to dave and get him to put up some 4wdtoyotamag articles and get permission to put mine up there too.
