Swapping 85 Truck Cluster for 00-03 MR2?? Ever been done?
I am in need of a tach, but dont want the ricer effect with it just chillin on my new dash (installed last week) I want it in the usual cluster position, need a speedo, turn signal indicators and fuel gauge, (have after market and external, oil pressure and temp on bottom of dash).
I have to admit, even though I despise doing things for there looks rather than there function (my old dash was falling to pieces..) I am attracted to the MR2 cluster..

That big tach in the middle would be AWESOME to have..
My questions include:
Has this ever been done?
Do any of you guys think its possible?
Does anyone know the dimensions of said cluster or have an idea were to find those dimensions?
Specifically the bolt config and depth at the top and bottom of the cluster.. (Idea would be scrapped if its going to stick way out.. got nothing from google.. Call a dealer possibly?)
What would I need to go from cable speedo to electronic?
Any idea how difficult the plug splicing/swap would be?
I have heard that the SR5 cluster swap is popular and it would actually suit my needs.. I feel like being kinda ricer just this once though.
What does that SR5 cluster swap require?
Truck background: 1985 single cab pickup 5spd 3" body 6" suspension, stock dash, (taken from 86) original stock cluster (256,000..haha) , new speedo cable.
Let me know if I am just being a dreaming idiot. Thanks.

Search - lots of info on this..
Short answer
a) SR5 cluster (preferribly from the same engine and trans type)
b) new oil pressure sender - swap the OP switch out
Thats it - its PLUG AND PLAY -
Which of course explains why its such a popular swap

As far as the MR2 swap
IMHO its do-able
BUT
If you have to ask HOW - then its probaly NOT do-able by YOU
How? to do it?
Get the FSM for both years of vehicles.
Easy issues
-- temp sender impedence ranges
-- oil pressure sender impedence ranges
-- tach (unless MR2 is a dual pulg motor)
Bigger issues - Speedo - cable or VSS
VSS impact on the EFI and cruise control
Possible soln via the Marlin speedo adapter
As far a size - the clusters for ALL the 85-88 era trucks are the same OUTSIDE dimensions.
I can measuer one later as I have a few
Yeah - I have a low level project to do a full "plug and play" Autometer dash

Thanks for the help man.
I know all about the dash/cluster I have, I have a couple for sale. I knew the SR5 was simple plug and play (having same size and bolts up) especially since I have after market and external oil pressure and temp so I dont need those.
I am looking for just, Speedo, Tach, Fuel, Turn Indicators.
What I didnt know is how to hook up the Tach.. Is it like a chevy you just look in the manual and find an timing output? Couple wires and run threw the firewall?
But the MR2 cluster was what I was wondering on the dimensions. It seems like the top of it would stick out quite a ways and I dont want it to stick out beyond the existing dash or I would scrub the project. Which is why I was asking for bolt whole dimensions and top and bottom depth.
The speedo would be my biggest problem I would say, but I will look for the Marlin adapter and do research on that.
BONUS: I dont have an EFI or cruise control so no problem there..haha
