Locked 4cyl diff as strong as 6 cyl diff?
I have always read on this board that a 2 pinion 4 cyl diff is weaker than a 4 pinion 6 cyl diff. I understand that.
BUT, is a 4cyl locked diff as strong as a 6 cyl open or locked diff?
It seems to me the only differenc eis the spider gears, so since they are gone, wouldn't it be just as strong as a 6cyl diff? just wondering.

I don't think it will be stronger, it just may not be weaker to the point that its the first thing you break...the difference comes in the pinion shaft and the bearings where the v6s are bigger and stronger, now if you aren't pushing big torque to em i dont think it matters...

Locked with what kind of locker?
Diff failure usually comes when the carrier deflects or bearings are loaded or loosened to the point of fatigue/deflection.
I doubt it is worth worrying about and there are likely few who can comprehend the answer.

I just have a lunchbox aussie locker, so it is the stock carrier. So the pinion shaft, bearings and carrier are actually the weak parts, which I still have. So I am really no better off than my stock 4cyl diff.
