alright, I think I give in
placing an order for a SCX10 RTR kit. $280 (free shipping too ) for the Honcho kit. I'll have to get a battery and charger, but I'll worry about that later after I get the rig together
I think it'll make a good start for me and give me plenty of room to build on. I've been finding some REALLY nice builds that people put together starting with this exact rig

It's funny you mention getting into this - I was just shopping around for a new truck and I think I have decided on the Axial Wraith. It looks flippin' sweet!
It's a bit pricey, though, so I'm shopping around to see what I think about some other ones that I could mod later on and save money now - like the SCX10. Let me know how you like it!

I love this crazy thing!
my dog isn't as exited about it as I am, lol. I drove him NUTS with it out in the front yard the day I got it in...
here's some poser shots; all I have as of now
I've already mounted a super-awesome hood ornament
Monday I'll be ordering a Tacoma decal kit so it'll look more realistic, and I'm also about to order some suspension upgrades and replace some of these plastic parts with aluminum ones

good job! only had mine for 2 weeks and now i've already started modding it. decided to beef up the suspension first and did all my new 4-link with traxxas rod ends, threaded rod, and sleeved with brakeline. it was really cheap compared to the kit and a fun DIY. today i moved all my electronics around and mounted the servo on the frame. be prepared, you're gonna start modding stuff and spending $ before you know it

LOL, I've already order the Traxxas rod ends and will be making my own custom links soon as well!
how did you mount your servo to the chassis? a purchased kit, or a DIY thing? I'd love to do that. The servo contacts the frame during articulation, and I really don't like that... or the fact that the wires on it are constantly moving when driving; that's not good for wires...
pretty soon I'm also going to tap into the wires for the LEDs and piggy-back some more on it. I've got a bunch of white and red LEDs and I'll probably just use some small gauge speaker wire that I have laying around to run it. it's nice that the RTR kit came with a TON of extra lighting options

fer-linked front!
will be fabbing up the rear links tomorrow, and tweaking the steering a little too...
this little thing is fulfilling my inner need to tinker with things, since I only have a 2wd to drive every day and not a 4wd to wrench on and wheel

I cut up the bumper, and the tires this weekend
this thing is a blast for sure!

Forgive my ignorance, but with such a small truck...does the 4-link really do much to improve it's performance?
I mean, don't get me wrong, that think looks badass and I'm sure it can crawl like no other - I'm just trying to understand the benefits.
