Thatguy1295's 01 Taco Customization
2001 Ext Cab tacoma, 5spd, 3.4 V6, 4X4, Factory Rear Locker, and sunroof.
List of current mods and such.
4.56 gears, 3'' toytec coils and bilstien struts, diff drop, deaver 8 leaf rear, air bags with custom built in cab pressure controller, bilstien shocks, 33 x 11.5's on 16'' steel rims, marlin clutch, ARB front bumper with slow 8K winch and hella 550 lights, ARB compressor installed in center console, Dual optima yellow tops, Deck plate mod, grey wire mod, selectable T-case mod, custom sub box under rear seats, 2 JL D1's, polk audio door and rear speakers, sony 600w 4channel amp, alpine 500w amp, Alpine IDX-305 receiver, LED dome and map lights, trailer brake controller, lots of dynomat, trail gear rear frame reinforcement, switched from 2 piece garbage to 1 one piece driveline. (Tom woods shaft, cv at the t-case) No vibes New transmission, And ground effects for wheeling, hold on theres more.......
Link to sub enclosure build https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f96/...nstall-256621/
But lest start at the beginning:
After the 3'' spacer lift and 33'' toyo m/t's
Then the girl friend got me an ARB bumper for X-mas.
I threw an 8K winch in there at the same time.
And that was the last straw for the spacer lift. The bumper caused the front end to sag a whole inch.
So toytec HD coils and bilstien adjustable shocks went on.
Sits nice and level now.
When I bought it had a TB spacer. Which we all know are pointless. But more importantly it was causing my intake tube to kink because of the additional shim added.
So after I interrogated it for several hours, it admitted to being a scam.
So I Tor it out.
Next was the stereo.
Under the passenger seat, Sony 600w 4channel amp for the door and rear speakers.
Under the drivers seat, Alpine 500w X 2 for the subs.
The subs, 2 10'' JL dub 1's, and a bad donkey mdf and fiberglass sealed box. This took a little customizing.
The deck, Alpine IDA-305
And mine didnt have a factory pocket deal. So I added that also.
Then 4 new Polk audio replacement speakers for the doors and rear. Very nice.
Now with all that audio, lets go with dual yellows in parallel.
You know, juice for accessories, stereo, power plugins in cab, ect..
And had to relocate the tom cruise control.
Had to build a custom mounting plate. And this thing fits just so.
More options:
Botton for the Extra bumper lights and voltage gauge ( more customizing)
And lets not forget the diamond plate tail gate
TRD stuff
Brake controller
Big ol deck plate mod
Some stainless sheet metal to block the hot air from the radiator from entering the intake.
This makes a noticeable difference IMO
Fram reinforcments because of hear say
Regeared it to 4.56
-
Lets tow some stuff
My camping trailer.
New F-150 Springs installed
Got rid of this
Axle wrap is gone and it handles better, but rides rough. Im going to have to toy with shock valving.
Custom built my own u-bolt brackets for u-bolt flip and a place perch for air bags in the future.
Had to modify the front hanger because the 150 springs are an 1/8'' wider.
With u-bolts flipped with shocks mounted directly to the axle, and no lift blocks, no axle wrap.
Cool mod but still not happy with the ride quality.
All said and done the F-150 springs give 2.5'' lift in the rear with factory rear shackle, works perfect with a true 3'' lift up front.
I used 80-96 F-150 springs from a 2wd 3+Overload leaf pack. Lightest one offered, and its still alittle to stiff IMO, but I think its shocks more than anything. The shocks I've ran all seem to stiff. The truck felt amazingly perfect soft when I road tested with NO shocks, but you can't do that.
Among other things:
- Selectable T-case mod (gives you the option of 2wd Low) without the front engaging the ADD stuff.
- No pics but Grey wire mod for posi driving
RECOVERY/GEAR IN THE TRUCK: 8K winch, 25' spool of extra 3/8'' cable, D rings, HD snatch block, tow strap, jumper cables (so I can give myself a jump), bottle jack, inverter, flares, come-along, the best of Bob Marley, Glock 9mm, first aid kit.

After I did the subs I needed to fix the rear seats. By that Im talking aboot the seats being just foam. So if someone sits on one of those seats there donkey pushes on the sub.
Easy fix, just added some 1/4'' plexi glass to the seats.
Still sits the same but now there solid, so no push through, if you know what i mean.

2nd try on the rear suspension and im much happier. I didnt like the f-150 springs. But I had to get new air bags
(Deaver) springs
(Air lift) bags
(?) U-bolt flip
(Bilstien) shocks
And some (energy suspension) 41/2 bump stops.

Just ordered this little guy from ARB. I hear great things. I think im going to mount it in the cab. I know that sounds crazy but I really think its best. It claimes its quite'ish and when Ill be using air ill be outside the truck anyways. Plus it will last forever in the truck. I know ARB tests the crap out of those things in different conditions, but im sure thier tests have reveled better longevity from the ones that were kept in clean, dry, not frozen, or 110 degree conditions. Or one would
So im thinking of mounting it in the bottem of the center console. I checked the product specs and measured the console. Their is plenty of room if I modify a tad. And im toying with mounting a 2'' 12v fan in front of it. Since I have it laying around. It rips

The one visual difference. But I dont mind this. There was a way around this buuuutt, it was way more work.

And besides you cant see it.

Thanx, ya the rims are going away soon. Compressor is actually pretty darn quiet when your in the cab. Nice part is your outside the truck when filling tires anyways.

Figured Id post a wiring diagram for anybody who also wants to do this mod.
More pics to come. I have not mounted the switches or gauge yet. But you get the idea.

Nice Truck. I'm looking at different build up threads trying to figure out how much lift I want for my '04 Tacoma. I don't want to lift it all that much and I have to say your 3" lift looks stellar. Thanks for the great pics.

I just ordered these
http://www.4wheelparts.com/Wheels/15...n=PCW152-6883F
16'' X 8" rim 4.25 backspace.
Going with the maxxis big horn 33'' X 11.5 again, had them in the past.
The rims you see on there now are 5.25'' backspacing and 10'' wide. With 33's the rub on the frame at full turn.

how do the air bags hold up under load? i'm putting a hell of a flat bed on my taco and i'm looking to do something besides the crappy stock leafs.
They go clear to the bump stops with my 4wd quad in the back and my camp trailer hooked up. If I put the bags at 60psi its bag to level, and rides great. And more weight only makes these trucks ride better it seems. To a point, then its bad again
Edit:
I would also recommend the frame reinforcement like I have or something, because those air bags put alot of pressure in a spot that is kinda weak and was never meant to have that pressure their. But depending on the flat bed your building, and how its mounted, it could act as a far better frame stiffener then a plate could.

They ride like a Lincoln with the springs flexed to breaking but other than that its terrible. would you suggest something like that or just find bigger leafs?
