I always wave on the trail, but they are always Jeeps, never Toys. It doesn't make a difference though as were all out with the same interest.

In town though, no waving here and especially not to other 4Runner owners. Face it, the 3rd gens (most common) is a yuppie mobile. No Runners are modified here other than those on the forums and a few extra 2nd gens. I could go months without seeing one. I can't recall any 4Runner folks looking my way even when stopped at a light. As said above, they are usually on their phones. Makes me sick!

I have however noticed a number of Taco owners checking out my Runner though. It is definitely a different crowd who owns the 4Runners vs. Tacos save for the few of us. Or, at least there's more of the younger/adventurous types with Tacos. Not many of those are modified either though. I think the vast majority of the population thinks they need a Jeep to be "cool" or to take "off-road."

Nah...we say "Dude" and "sweeeeet"...hehe .

when I had my runner, ya people would roll down their windows and talk to me while at a stoplight or in the parking lot. Now with my Tundra, I think I only found one cool dude driving one and we gave each other a nod...otherwise it's really boring people driving the Tundra around town.

On Noel's subject...there are some fine lookin' women around town that drive Tacomas...I always gotta check'em out. They usually got the "Fox" or "NorCal" stickers on their truck, but man are they cute!!! I am just like schaweeeing!

Just quoting you and correcting the img tag.

I never really thought about waving to other Yota's, I think I will pending the owner of the other yota....

As for the soccer moms, moon em, but make sure that you press your butt on the window and fart so it condenses and forms a steam on the window.

hehehehehe

When i first started driving (in my 76 Cutlass) i got a lot of "hey your car's on fire" while in the parking lot and at the light! I graduated from my pos though and drove a sweet 74 IHC Scout II for several years. The IHC owners and buffs allways wanted to chat and look under the hood. and would go to great lengths to get your attention. Even on long road trips i would find people all over who hade a Scout story. It was really homey. But when i took off the top I could be next to a Ferrari F50 and all eyes would be on me (as i sweated in the sun!)

The Toyota on the other hand really doesent seem to get much play. I get some looks in parking lots when people can hear my flowmaster. And i find that alot of mustang owners raise an eyebrow (due to simelar sounds). I find on the road that I am inclined to catch up to see who is driving that rig up ahead and am allways finding chicks in late runners and 4 door tacos! But they dont seem to care.

I am all for the sticker thing (red dot) as well as a yotatech marking! If your looken ill give you a wave!

I never waive at anyone I don't know (and it seems I hardly ever see someone I know out driving around) unless it to recognize a courtesy like letting me into traffic. I'm not sure I want to waive at strangers in any kind of vehicle in an urban area. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I always wonder if some gang member would see it and take it for an insult or something.

Out in the hills I waive at people if we're going slow enough to make eye contact, and especially when passing in narrow places or something like that.

I remember going deer hunting with my dad when I was a kid and everyone just waived (not much of a real wave, just a hand raised from the steering wheel or something like that). Most people back then just seemed to do it - I guess as a sign they were friendly and maybe in the hope that if they had any trouble you'd remember the waive and help them out.

I wave at other yota owners either be tacos or runners. Some wave back at me and some don't, oh well. At least I gave them the first wave to let them know that I too drive a Yota. But one day while driving at the oceanfront I was so lucky this beautiful blond girl driving a 2nd gen runner gave me a smile, waved at me, and flashed her bikini top and I was sold I can't help myself but yell wooooohoooooo, I love TOYOTAS with beautiful chicks in it, yeaaaaah!!!

Yea.. that's kinda a Jeep thing I have noticed...

I get way too much dang attention now.. I feel like some sort of freak show driving on the highway.. That snorkel gets more rubber neck's, double takes and to the point of a taxi driver (with a rear seat passanger) rolling down his window in Cambridge to ask me what "that thing" is... I have taken to telling people it is an air to ground missle launcher

I to slightly cool at times when little kids start bouncing all over the car pointing it out to their mom.. I get a lot of looks from other Runners too..

I have even had people in parking lots get out of their car to ask about it??

Geesh, don't anyone watch "The Crocadile Hunter" :pat:

I always have because when I first got mine new back in '98, other 4runner drivers would wave at me. of course that was in Louisianna and not texas. I tried to wave when I first moved here in '99 but most people either flip me off or look at me like I'm a fag. some die hard offroader guys recognize that mines not strictly a street machine so they'll check it out and even strike up conversations at stop lights. I saw a dude in a 2nd gen that had a nice big lift on it, we both pulled into a parking lot and compared rigs. of course, his was better in my opinion since the 2nd gen is more liftable.

not drowning, but waving...

hahaha, what a thread.

When it comes down to it, if I wave @ you and your rig, wave back, okay?

Or, if you're on the cellphone at the time... um.... send me a text message.

I see bikers wave all the time...never a Runner owner. I'd say 95% of the Runners here are stock, and there are a ton of 'em. I tend to look at any Runner even slightly modded, my co-pilot tells me "they're checking out the Runner"... I did meet one guy who followed me into a parking lot. He did a lot of subtle upgrades only a Runner lover would notice...like me. He tripped out on my Japan goodies. Would be kool to form some sort of club.

I tend to wave only to the people who actually appreciate their truck (Like a lot of you have already said) and don't just think of it as their way to get from "Point A" to "Point B".

Unfortunately there aren't too many people who appreciate their trucks in my area, but it's funny because we all tend to wave to eachother and not others

The same kind of thing happens when I'm driving my Xterra. The majority of the X's that I see driving around my area are soccer moms. But there are a few that really appreciate their truck, and we've begun to remember eachother and wave

There are a ton of 4runners in my town. My wife and I count to see how long we can go down the road without seeing a runner. I've only seen maybe a handful of rigs that have been pampered and modified. I usually check out pretty much every car on the road but I always find the runners. I usually end up saying out loud to myself, "nice runner but not as nice as my baby" (as I pat it lovingly on the dash). My wife really hates when I do that, she calls me a car snob. What can I say, I love my truck. (as I'm sure everyone on this board has a special place for their truck in their ego) Plus, I just have to say that, even if the other runner is 10 times nicer. My truck is very emotional and needs reassuring. (I hope she didn't hear that)
I sometimes wave, but I always like to see if any other 4runner is checking out my ride...there goes my ego again. :pat:
Man, I gotta stop that.

PS- I'm a lot worse when I'm driving the Audi.

I'll have to agree with Darren on this one. If I wave in town, I get wierd looks. I do wave on the trail, though. But I don't always get a waive back :ahole:
Sometimes I'll forget I'm driving my Escort and strike up a conversation with someone at the gas station with a 4Runner. They always look at me like I'm an escaped mental patient when they find out I know so much about their 4Runner. :pat:

Here in the UK the LandRover seems to rule supreme, especially the new FreeLander model, but there are a few 4Runners around and male drivers always flash their lights, femail drivers don't get it. Sometimes guys pick up my URL from the side of the vehicle and email me later in the day just to "check the vehicle out". Same with Hilux drivers but only if they are mod'ed or lifted.

Well, I just ordered my yotatech sticker today (along with the stainless travel mug)- the sticker itself was a whole 3 dollars! I know there are several of us in Seattle, so keep you're eye open for a forest green 'runner with the yotatech sticker, I'll be sure to wave at ya'.
