where to get a steering rack?

So I've had a wobble in the steering wheel for a while. I've ignored it until today. Hoping it was an inner tie rod at the most, I rolled under my truck, took off the steel bands (no need to cut them as I was told, they snap off and on again), pulled the boot back, and had my brother wiggle the steering wheel. To my dissmay, fluid dripped out and there was a ton of slop inside the rack between the shaft and housing. It just klunks all over in there.

So upon searching, I read mixed review on re-mans. Toyota OEM is rediculously over priced. I will do a poly bushing kit with the new rack, but where can I find a rack? At TRD4U, if I read it right, they have a rack for $250.
Rack, 4-runner - power rack and pinion - POWER RACK and PINION
96-00 List: $329.21 your price: $247.40
Is that a re-maned or new? Any suggestions on where to look? My local junk yards have nothing.

I dont think you selected the right one. You may just have selected the inner rack itself. Confirm part numbers with them and your needs before ordering

In the above diagram, you may have only selected #12.

You've got 3 options. Buy one from Toyota, buy one from an auto parts store or look for one out of a wrecked truck.

If you buy one from Toyota, you get a 1 year warranty and the rack is remaned with Toyota parts. If you choose this option, try to negotiate on the price a little. Trust me, you can.

If you buy one from the auto parts store, try to find one with a 1 year warranty as well. These are usually much cheaper than the Toyota one (about $400 vs. $700). I've seen some that are good and some that don't last very long.

Buying from the junk yard or from a truck that's being parted out is iffy. You never know what you're going to get. Of course this will be your cheapest option, but even if you pay $100-$200 for the rack, if it only lasts 6 months, you'll be kicking yourself for not buying one with some sort of a warranty.

I'm in the the same boat as you and will probably bite the bullet and get the Toyota one.
