I have a question for all you knowledgeable guys and girls. I have a 2000 4Runner with a 2.5" OME suspension lift and a 2" RB body lift. Stock A arms. I just purchased a set of 17" x 7.5" wheels. I am going to run either 285/70/17 Toyos or 295/70/17 Nittos on these wheels. My dilemma!!! The backspacing on these wheels appears to be 5". I assume I will have some rubbing issues. Will spacers such as the ones from Marlin help me out as far as rubbing? How much of a spacer should I get? What do I do as far as the rear is concerned? Do they need to use some type of a spacer as well. I'm just looking to tackle all the issues before I put my new tires and wheels on and have problems. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

its a hit or miss think i guess. Some people like them some dont.

i didnt want to go through that issue, so just bought a 16x8 witih 4.5 backspacing.

I think the stock backspacing is 4.5 so you'd need a 1/2" spacer to bring you back in line and should help curtail any rubbing that might occur. Either Bamachem or sschaefer3 should be able to give you more technical answers to your questions (types of spacers, driveability, etc).

Ive had spacers now for about a year, they are the 1/4" spacers, NO problems here at all.

ditto what Ric said - small spacers = no problem....

big spacers = big problems

I had some 1" marlin crawler* spacers on my rig and it hella sucked.

(*) they were marlin crawler style, bought used, so unknown if they were the genuine article.

What were the issues with the 1" spacers? I think I need to go at least 1/2" to get back to stock wheelspacing. Do you know who sells a 1/2" spacer" Do they go on all four wheels? Thanks again,

you'll only need them on the front, i'd suspect
ps, mine old spacers were bought used, so I can't say they were "genuine" marlin crawler made = i know alot of peeps have had GREAT luck with their spacers.

I wanted to stay away from the spacer idea so I just went with the LX450 wheels, similar to the ones that Localmotion bought and I have no rubbing issues at all.

i just bought some rims with 3.25 or 3.5 backspacing...not sure how they are going to fit and rubbing issues with 32x11.5 ...still gotta compare the backspacing to my stock aluminum..

spacers are fine as long as you get high quality spacers that are pretty much hubcentric... I have ran 25mm Rogue Engineering spacers on the front of my BMW 5 series for awhile without any problems.... No shimmy or anything. I then had a set of 30mm hubcentric spacers made by some shop that had some SEMA association thing and they sucked... At 50ish, it would shimmy like no other... I have also ran 20mm FK Automotive spacer on the rear of my M Roadster before and again, no problems... Don't buy those cheap stuff or no name shop brands though... Not sure what big name tuner would carry it for SUV's/TRUCK's though.

However another thing to keep in mind is that we run pretty huge tires and with the spacers, there will be alot more stress on the wheel bearings..
