Like what Flamedx4 says. My SR5 truck has the features as he described plus ADD since it's a 4WD. It does not have the optional moonroof, power package, premium stereo, cruise control, ABS, airbags, or bucket/sports seats.

Hey, what's wrong with an auto? My auto tranny has over 300,000 miles on it and my truck keeps up with them manual 4.3L V6 2WD Chevy S-10's.

They probably started power accessories about 88-89 maybe.

My 93 SR5 pickup is the same interior as the 93 4-runners from the front seats forward, power windows, door locks, cruise, sun roof, bucket seats, center console, side pockets, tilt wheel, tach, ac, and clock. It also came with the 31 inch tire package, aluminum alloy wheels, 4.88 gearing (auto tranny), "shift on the fly" ADD, and of course the fancy SR5 stripes and decals. My 90 SR5 does not (well, did not, it does now...) have power windows and door locks, or mirrors. It does have the console and the better seats and the gauges and clock, tilt wheel, ADD, rear ABS.

a wierd fact:

in '79 and '80 there were no SR5 4x4s, but the "upscale" model was called the "sport." i figure it on being that the 5 speed wasn't used in 4wd trucks until 1981. the sport package got you a tach, oil pressure, ammeter, tinted glass and carpeting around the bottoms of the doors. you also got the nice 70s style woodgrain dash

My 92 SR5 has power windows/locks/mirrors, tilt, cruise, clock, side pockets in the doors, AC (front and rear), cloth interior, tach (with slushbox), fancy striping, rear wing spoiler, split fold down rear seats, and other stuff that I can't think of.

Looks like there are lots of options otherwise available on them which may explain all the differences...

Love mine though....

I installed them myself. Door locks, keyless entry, power windows and cruise control, all bought off ebay.

I seem to remember that, and the sports had those big swoopy multi-colored stripes so popular in the 70s. My Dad had a 76 SR5 2wd longbed though.

Also, there were a few vanity editions even back then, the Navaho was one I remember. Brown with Gold Navajo-ish striping pattern on it. There were others...

actually my truck is a "sport" model, i think pinstripes were extra in '79 and '80

there are dozens if not hundreds of different stripe and color packages in the 80s. my personal favorites are the rare '81 SR5 multicolor packages:

there's also a version of this that uses red instead of blue on the back half of the body/cab, very sharp looking

Those are what I was talking about, the sports. there actually weren't dozens or hundreds of stripe patterns, not from Toyota, the dealers did all those. $20 worth of stripes for $200 - dealer's dream! People would stripe anything, the uglier and more tasteless the better they liked it. Like disco - a low point in taste and style for the American culture... In the late 70s and early 80s I made buttloads of spare cash pinstriping.

Phil, did you insert power in your stock doors or did you swap doors?

I'm interested.

Do you have a write up?

In the latter part of the 1970's, the SR5 connotation denoted an option code for the HiLux series of trucks, similar to what the Z71 option code currently means for an upgraded Chevy or GMC pickup or Tahoe/Yukon.

Originally released around 1975, the 'S' denoted Sport, 'R' denoted the RN motor code, and '5' denoted the 5-speed transmission. It quickly caught on and the SR5 connotation passed onto the Corolla and then onto other Toyota car models.

Now-a-days its just a Luxury package, my '01 Tacoma PreRunner Reg Cab is an SR5 and the most noticable differences are the chrome bumper/fender and grill, AM/FM/CD/Cass deck and the white backed instrument panel which is orange back lit (which looks sweet at night btw). And of course the shiny chrome SR5 badge on the tailgate.

The standard SR5 package sold on the new tacoma trucks is:

SR5 Chrome Package -- includes chrome bumpers and grille surround, defroster-linked CFC-free air conditioning, dual-fabric sun visors with mirror and visor extensions, orange-illuminated white-faced gauges (speedometer, tachometer with LCD twin tripmeters, and coolant temperature and fuel-level meters), digital clock, tilt steering wheel, washer-linked variable intermittent windshield wipers and Deluxe AM/FM Cassette/CD with four speakers (Regular Cab) or six speakers (Xtracab and Double Cab)

Hope this is helpful.

RedprerunnerSR5 said it all.... the options packages are extensive. This allows buyers to choose the amenities that work best for them. For example, the SR5 options package air conditioning, 3-in-1 audio, tilt steering wheel, tachometer, digital clock, sunvisors with vanity mirrors, and a chrome or color-keyed appearance package. Other packages, like the Chrome Package, for example, offers air conditioning, 4-in-1 audio system, tachometers and various exterior detailing. oh and I LOVE the orange backlit white sport gauges!!!

Oh yeah power locks and mirrors, front and rear heater, map lights and dome light, the guage cluster, power windows, hmmmm let's see anything else? Oh yeah wild intermittent windshield wipers with like 20 speed settings. Hmmm what else? ...

Oh yeah rear defroster but not sure if that's part of the package.

It's pretty easy really. Pull the door panels and install away. Run some wires. You should have some natural tinkering ability, but power windows is easy, power locks a bit more headscratchy. Google for it - there's lots of writeups. I gave up doing writeups, I've sent in quite a few and they never get published. (Some there, some to other sites) Maybe I should do one on changing a tire or the installing a billet oil filler cap "mod." <grin>

I heard when SR5 was first branded on the truck it stood for "Standard-cab Rear wheel drive 5spd". Now, some of you will ask why the extended cabs and 4runners and such have them.. but, nowadays it is merely a badge, offering some upgrades. That's what I heard...
