What year LC wheels require special lug nuts?

Anyone recall what year FZJ80 LC rims require special lug nuts, as opposed to being able to use '01 stock lugs?? (Stock '01 lug nuts have a 'shank')

Search hasn't be helpful, so KyleT suggested posting here.

I think that the fj80 wheels (pre 95) have the inner ring. Mine are from a 94 and they have the rings. The fzj80 wheels from 95-97 don't have the inner ring and can use the stock lugs. Can anyone else confirm this?

BTW, I didn't have to buy special lug nuts. The standard accorns that Discount tire carries worked just fine on mine and it ended up costing me about $30. You could probably get out cheaper at Autozone.

not sure what my year is...but I have the black "grommet" looking thing. It requires the shank style lug nuts IIRC. The other ones you can use your factor acorn style.

I'm also having this same dilemma. I have 3 wheels from a 94 and the 4th is on the way from a 93. I believe the 93 and 94 wheels require the acorn style conical nuts while the post 95 wheels require a shank style lug. So am i correct in assuming that i can use the factory lugs from my stock 1997 4runner wheels to mount the 93-94 fzj80 wheels? I believe the stock lugs on my 97 are acorn style and not shank style. Thanks in advance for any insight.
Joe

Mine is a limited as well and I had the shank style lug nuts on my wheels. If you have the shank style and get the wheels with the black rings you really need to get Acorn lug nuts. I didn't see any way to safely use the shank lugs with the black inset wheels without damaging the wheel and making a very unsafe situation.
