Trannsmission change ?'s

Hey guys -- the other weekend I changed my manual transmission and transfer case fluids. I didn't do the front/rear differentials b/c it got too damn cold. Anyways, I drained and filled as them as normal, stopping when a little fluid started to seep out of the fill hole. Ever since then I have thought that my shifting has required a bit more force and my gas mileage went down the drain.
So, today I went to change the front/rear diffs and decided to check the trany fluid level. When I took out the fill plug to stick my finger in the hole to check for fluid, the fluid started to run out at a pretty good rate. So I guess that I had too much in there??? I just let it run out until it stopped. When the tranny is full its is not suposed to run out of the hole, right? My chiltons manual says that the fluid should be 5mm below the bottom of the hole.
My questions are:
1. Do you think that I had too much fluid in there? Is that why it drained out of the fill hole.
2. Do you think that I have too little fluid in there? It's right at the bottom of the fill hole.
3. Do you think that I did any damage driving around with too much fluid in the tranny? I drove ~400 miles.
4. Could that be related to my gas mileage going down?

Thanks for the help,
Chris

Depends. How much drained out? The spec level is within 1mm of the bottom of the fill hole. An extra pint or so isn't an issue, more than a quart extra can be.

No. It should now be right where it is supposed to be.

Not likely. Once again, it depends on how much extra was in there. If it was too full, it may have leaked past some seals, did it?
4. Could that be related to my gas mileage going down?
Possibly but I don't imagine it would be much of a factor, certainly not one that would be noticable after only 400 miles.
Thanks for the help,
Chris
You're welcome
