Does anyone have an opinion on toytec's coilovers? They use bilstein 5100 shocks and toytec/ eibach coils. i was hoping to use them and some cruiser coils to get about 3.5 in of lift. also i was looking at there version that lets you use your own top plate for 100 less. would there be any disadvantage to that?

I'm running there old version coilovers, no complaints for me. Easy instillation great product, holding up great to my abuse

I'd go ahead and spend the extra 100 so its just an easy bolt in affair, no coil spring compressor needed on the front.

cool your runner is sweet btw i hope to do something like your front bumper after the lift and tires... regarding the bilsteins up front ..ive heard that they are "like a rubber band" on a 4runner..not quite sure what that meant but have you heard anything about those...i know SS has special billies for their products but whats your opinion?

i have the old version also. i like the ride better then a spacer. i also have fj rear coils. great combo!

I just put in the coil overs about a month ago, major improvement from stock. I went with the 600 lbs spring and it is a little stiff until I add more weight in the form of a bumper and winch. The front no longer nose dives when braking and does not bounce or bottom out. With out the weight I really can not judge the shocks yet, it is to stiff to tell. For the back I used well settled FJ80 coils for about 3.5 inches of lift and the front are cranked up to 3 inches.
First impressions are good, just needs more weight and time.

Wondering why you didn't go with 650lb coils then?
It's strange you say this when additional weight suggests the 650lb coils. I've asked a few about the 600lb vs 650lb coils (including toytec) and get opinions that vary widely.
Please update your experience//thread after you add additional weight.

yes pls do update and i also wanted to know which nicknaks you used during your lift.? pandrop, diff drop, bumpstops, brakelines...?

It took me a full day to put the lift in, COs in the front and well used FJ80's in the back. The back was the easiest and it raised about 3.5 inches. The front was a little PITA, make sure you have someone there to help you out with the prying and pushing to get the COs in. I also put in the 1 inch diff drop kit and the rear brake line extension. Adjusting the front coil overs is definitely a two person job, one holding and one adjusting. I had to use a 2 foot cheater bar on the wrench.
Since then I made an adjustable panhard to bring the rear axle back where it should be. I noticed that it moved to the PAX side about 5/8 inch. I also extended the swaybar links, the front was close to hitting the steering linkage. I extended them 2 inches all around.

As for spring rates, my understanding was that stock the rate is 500, add more weight (+150lbs) is 600 add even more weight (+200 or more lbs) on a permanent basis is 650.

so i would go with the 500s and it sounds like i need most of the crap but im lookin to find it for cheeper that SS offers like 150 for bumpstops seems a lil steep but thanks for all the input

I am running the All-Pro CO's(similar set-up as Toytec) and UCA's and the SS1.2 rear. I love the ride and it works incredible off-road. The ride is a little stiff but handles great on and off the road. I have had mine on for about 7 months and no complaints. I like the full threaded body adjustment instead of the C-Clip adjustable of the SS kit.

Were did you get the fj80 coils on Toytec?

i dont have the coils but ive seen them on yotatechs marketplace often and heard of people getting them at junkyards oh also from the landcruiser forums.. hope someone can elaborate

Check on IH8MUD forum, most cruiser guys change their suspension and have the old front coils laying around. That's how I got mine. Front Fj80 Coils for the back of the 4 runner and rear fj80 shock for the rear to compliment the coils.
