toyota tranny swap
I am going to be in the market soon for another trans for my 98 toyota t100. its the 2wd 3.4l auto with the column shift. not sure on the model no. of the trans.
the thing is, i would rather have a manual trans as i do a lot of pulling up hills and such.
is the bolt pattern the same on the bell housing?
aside from a new pedal hanger, flywheel, misc cutting, and the man. trans, what else do i need/ look into?
do i need the ecu from the donor truck with the manual trans?
i would really much rather have a manual over the auto. i am curious if anyone has ever done this with a computer controlled tranny, and how it turned out. or maybe somebody has a hook up on a low mileage auto trans for cheap.

generally speaking, toyota auto-to-manual swaps are pretty straightforward. the transmission from V6 T100 tacoma, tundra, or 4runner made after 1995 should be as close to a bolt-in as you can get.
the pedal assembly from a T100 with a manual tranny should bolt in place of your auto one
bellhousings between manual and auto are different
the hardest part will be hotwiring the neutral safety switch to trick the computer to thinking it's in "park" or "neutral" so the engine can be started. everything else should bolt right up
