tacoma third member
I am about to lift my oo tacoma 13 inches and put it on 39.5s. the only gears i could find for it was a 5.29 third member. do I just unbolt my old one and put the new one in its place, or is it more complicated than that.

Swapping in a third member is almost as easy as pulling the axle shafts and plugging in the new third, then putting it back together.
But you know there's a lot to lift than that, right? You are going to have to pull the front diff and crack it, if you have one and your steering rack's life is going to be measured in days with 39.5's on there, amongst other problems you are going to have.
What lift or combination of lifts are your proposing to have equal 13"?

With the stock rack and pinion, people have complained of short life spans with 35" tires and up. I ran 35's while I was IFS and it cost me two steering racks. I can only imagine how many racks you will go through with tires that size.
Unless you figure out a way to beef up the steering system, it's going to be your weak link, more so the meatier the tires get.
