I got a 2002 taco, 4x4 3rz extra cab, 5speed manual. This is my first taco as i have always had the older trucks and runners. Its a low km truck (145000 km) i love the truck except for the shifting. It tends to thump when you let out the clutch when driving, not when starting off in 1st just when shifting. Or when you let off the gas in 5th then re-apply. No vibrations or anything and drives good. I replaced one iffy ujoint and checked over the center support bearing and it looks good with the usual amount of rubberyness to it. Anyone else notice this sort of thing? Feel sort of like a race clutch with no spring in it...

Does this Have ADD ??

If it does the CV axles and front shaft turn all the time.

Problem there??

Did you look at the Engine Mounts and the transmission Mounts?

Broken rear spring flexing ??

Some ideas

This is in the not the clutch pedal which is known for the nylon bushings on the return spring that wear out .??

Causing it to clunk and not return all the way

Thanks Wyoming. I will look over those usual things this weekend. It definatly feels like it is from the transmission back. It might even just be the dashpot on the throttle being lasy. It also just might be me, as most of my trucks have been 400k km with sloppy transmissions......not used to the new tight feel....

Had a similar problem and it turned out to be the clutch. Can you feel the gears when you shift if so that is how I finally figured mine out.

Also check for play in the propeller/driveshaft carrier bearings and bushings they can thump but usually during heavy load/torque well slipping the clutch,
