Mine did the same thing after i changed the spark plugs, problem was that i mixed up one of the plug wires and once i pulled out the old haynes manual to get things back in the right order it ran fine again.

I just put the new wires in...same thing...put the old plug back in...seems to be the same...I had never swapped the wires before in it. Anyone have a diagram of the firing order? Just in case? At first started the thing bogs down and the throttle is not responsive...it pops and then kicks up a little..only to drop back down PITA. I am not sure a bad 02 sensor would do that..would it? I am leaning towards coilpack

thanks...no distributor though..Coil packs on the passenger side..my bad..I took the wires off one for one...but I guess something could have went crazy, what is the connection order? I will have to take it apart again real quick to check

Sounds like it's time to take it to a shop. For two reasons. You are tired of trying to figure it out and you can keep throwing parts on until it's fixed which will cost a lot of money.

Well I can't get it into the shop...not yet at least and its my daily. I am going to clean the MAF...TPS and all that crap and see if that does anything. I will ask again...the o2 sensor would not cause this correct? That cel came on awhile back with no change in performance...the only thing that changed anything was the spark plug change. Thats why I lean towards coilpack, improper gap...but I could be wrong thats for sure

Is you ground (the one where the diagnostic port is bolted to) get bolted back up--is it loose?
Check you grounds also........and over on TTORA--they have a FSM for a 1996 Tacoma--use that to make sure you have your wire right. Sounds like wires are crossed--I did it on my initial install....

Also you said it could be improper gapping on the plugs, have you checked the gaps?? Even though i would think that they would have to be pretty far off to be giving you trouble like this..

cleaned MAF...still same thing. Unplugged TPS truck started...when I stepped on the gas it was about to stall..similar to b4 but not totally..plugged it back in started, bogs when trying to accelerate...but does not almost stall. turned off and unplugged MAF....car would not even start. Plugged it back in and it started, but does the same thing as b4. How do you clean the TPS? The TPS has a sticker on it...is this considered an "old" model and should be upgraded?

I could not see how to clean the TPS...I took it off and there is no way to clean it. By the way...this is only on the passenger side. The drivers side ones were done before and do not need changing. They had the plats in there

tried to take the IAC sensor out..one screw was tough but I got it out...the other POS is on the brink of being stripped. Why would toyota put such crappy screws in these things? I sprayed TB cleaner in the hole where the IAC is, and cleaned the TB some more. I still sputter when getting on it, but no backfiring etc...still doesnt seem like it has as much power...and no cel on either.

Took it for a drive...cel popped on. Truck runs much better but not real peppy. Took it to get the code read...P171 running lean. I went ahead took my K&N out and put in a Purolator. I am pretty far from the stealership or I would have went and got an OEM.
I guess the IAC could be causing it to run lean?

Everywhere I look points to MAF dirty. I cant take it all the way out though to clean the inner wires...the dam screw is stripped out. BLAH At least I can drive it now though.
I am going to say that the K&N probably caused some of the issue...if not all...the oil in it probably got on the MAF and gunked it all up. Well its out now (the filter) I gotta figure out how to clean the MAF with it still in the housing
