Sorta solved my overheating problem
Did the 340 mile run to Cornwall last weekend, 5 1/2 hours inc. a half hour engine cooling / coolant replenish stop. Kept my foot off the gas and did around 70 mph all the way down - no speeding but is was "warm" so I was pissed with the rad overheating again (but it wasn't showing on the dial just that I always open the hood and check levels half way through a long trip.
So I started thinking and came up with the idea that my IPF lights must have been blocking the airflow through the rad. Now these 800s are big and the two of them just about fill the gap between my two upright supports on my ARB bumper. So before I turned around and made the journey back to Coventry I removed the lights totally. No problems on the way back! The first hour of driving can be a test for the engine as there are alot of long hills on the way out of Cornwall. Stopped again halfway - everything OK, and then "beasted" the machine for the last 100 miles - still no problems.
Now, of course, how it would behave in a baking desert is another matter but I wouldn't be pushing the engine so fast or so hard there. I just have to reconcile myself to leaving the IPFs off until I can find a new position for mounting them - any ideas?
