Shackle Hangars

I've wanted to find a workable shackle hangar for my TJM-17. It has a couple of 1" loops but they looked too light to consider putting a 3/4" shackle on and pulling from the side.

I discussed this with a friend and he came up with these babies:

Before painting, the spacers are to even the TJM frame out.

Painted and installed, you can see the spacers in place.

This is what it looks like in real time. He used 3/8" angle plus the spacers to fill and get it leveled out. With the drilling, it turned out to be a pretty good job. He said if he were to do more he's make a real pattern and fit it better.

They look pretty beefy to me but hopefully, I won't have to find out if they will really work.

Ok, BeachRunner, let's see how much interest there is, maybe we could put together a group order and get a special price.

For what its worth I've been winched up a pretty steep hill at an angle, using only the stock TJM mounts, and I had no bending whatsoever. That being said, a little extra insurance wouldn't heard, and I'd probably be interested in a set of these, I like how they keep the same mount point and don't go lower.

Aren't the TJM-17 mounts different from the TJM-15? I believe these (Micks) would just reinforce the flimsy 17 mounts.

Well, Beachrunner, I haven't compared the two bumpers (the T-15/T-17) but it appeared to me that the T-17 might be a little on the flimsey side also, especially if that truck were stuck good and you were pulling from the side.

I sure don't have any experience though. But I think I cut the "worry factor" down a bit.

It can be done to any TJM-15 mount, but I did cut mine and raise the bracket 1". From the photo's, it looks like the TJM-17 uses a weaker mounting system. I've pulled hard at an angle and had no bumper movement....

Hey guys,

I'm talking to the guy who fabbed mine to make sure he will do these if we order them. I'm meeting with him tomorrow (Wed) and should have an answer and will post.

Mark...No it's not Tom and at this point no welding is involved. Tom looked at my set the other day and gave his blessing. I was thinking about running a bead on the leading edge to join the piece to the TJM but he said he didn't think it would do any good.

I'm in the process of adding an off highway section to my website and will probably place them and some other choice products there.

More to follow, thanks for the interest.

Well...It turns out my guy is in Mexico for a few days and will be back Sunday. So...A few more days to get the final word on the shackle hangars.

I'm also working on some weld on options that should work well and cost less, for those who like to weld.

Hey Mick... I don't mean to be a stick-in-the-mud, but why are these so expensive? $120 for the pair (plus shipping), and no D-rings, seems like a bunch of cash.

Take a look at the 99-02 TJM brackets, they are different and do not have the ring that you are adding to.

So these might only apply to the 96-98 4Runner TJM brackets.

Check into it.
