The 22RE sounds like it's being punished at 5000, and the power has already fallen off by then. Why rev it higher just to blow something up?

Indeed. Climbing dunes I used to keep it at 4500 rpm. It pulled best there. Once in a while you'd bounce and it would rev higher - sounded AWFUL. The valves do not like to work at those rpms, even though the bottom end can take it. I can tell you there were no rev limiters back in 85...

I got a 94 22re 5 speed pickup and i was always scared to take it up too high because i dont have a tack yet. so i recently tried it. i got it up to 2nd gear and stayed on it higher than i ever have before and i heard no limiter bounce and it didnt feel like the fuel got cut cause it was still climbing. i know it kicks in at like 6200 rpms but i swear i was going higher. my buddy has a 93 pickup and he says he has heard it bounce the limiter before. so i dont know. maybe im just too scared to take it up high?? haha
