so then how in the link posted above did they get it to work on the tacoma?

I don't understand that either. 3rd gen cv's come out so easily that I cannot imagine it getting any easier and still be strong. Just unbolt the 4 bottom bolts on the lower ball joint and take off the main spindle nut and that it. You are right taco and runner cv are the same for 3rd gens and 98+ tacos

I guess you're talking about this link? http://www.off-road.com/toyota/cheaptricks/quickcv/
What makes you think that is a Tacoma or 3rd gen? I don't see any reference to what it is. They really screwed up that site, they had some nice write-ups over there and they remodeled the site and threw some out and the others seem to be unorganized.
I pretty much gave up on them when they had that Nissan truck ad that took over your whole screen for about 30 sec and forced you to wait for it to go away.

That site has been spamming me for the past week.
I am a member there, use to post there a lot a few years back.
Had to look up my login info and hit my Control Panel.
Somehow they activated me to recieve a daily digest of the GM forums
Fixed it, no more mail.
And yes, I remember the almost full page adds that would come zooming in across your screen.
Very annoying.

The writeup they had WAS much better, but as many have said, that site is a shell of its former self.
I did that mod in this thread: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...ght=ARB+regear
Here's the post about the CV mod: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...13&postcount=2

Okay, so from looking at my front end...
(click for larger pics)
And comparing what I saw to Cebby's pics:
I don't see how the mod is applicable to the 96. In fact, changing out the CV is so dern easy on the 96 that I don't know if there _is_ a way to make it easier, unless you can get it apart without having to pull the skidplate.
