I'm on my 4 yellow top and I also run a red top (1 red and 1 yellow at once). Trust me on this, Optima is NOT all it is cracked up to be. We live on a farm and had accumulated around 45 batteries (not kidding) over the years and sold them to a guy who recyles them for a living. He basically pics up crap batteries for a living, and I told him how bad of luck I had with Optima's and he basically agreed/told me they aren't worth the money. Almost every battery maker puts out a high end deep cycle or rough duty battery. For example, NAPA sells a Nascar Select that is real solid. In the midwest we have Batteries Plus, which only sells batteries... in general, the heavier the battery the better.

If you're still set on the Optima, ask yourself this.... do you plan on using the PS2, inverter, compressor, and stereo with the vehicle off? If so, get Yellow. Otherwise, get Red. Obviously if you're using the compressor you should have the vehicle running. The inverters CAN pull some major juice, but if you're just playing a bit of Playstation (less than an hour) you can still get by on the Red top.

Still... Optima is not worth the high price tag...

Also they are dry cell so if you have an in-cabin solution (like I do) its added security/safety to have a dry cell.

the difference between the 34 and the 34/78 =

34 has the top posts only

the 78 is the side posts for chrysler (i think?) or chevy. whatever american cars use the side posts. haha

34/78 means it has the top posts and the side posts.

thats the only diff. for a 4runner, we do not need the sideposts of the 34/78, but it doesnt hurt. the 34 will work just fine.

if you get it at sears have them install it.... that way when it falls into the Power steering pully and eats a hole in the side, tehy will replace it for free and you dont have to shell out $$$ again but i also have a yellow top as my only battery, soon i will go to a dual battery setup wiht a red as the starter and yellow in the back..

Does anyone have pics of the second post being used on the yellow top? Looking at the position of them it appears that it would be tough to use them.

Thanks

I got my Orbital at NAPA. I dont recall what the part # is, but I gave them the vehicle spec's abd they looked it up for me.
Had the battery for about nine months and have had no trouble (Although you shouldn't have trouble at nine months)

i just bought my second one ( 6 years later) Napa part # 9934/78. i've been running a winch 4 hellas including 2 rally 4000s amps etc. on the battery and it was just time for a replacement. Optimas are hard to come by around here at least a 34r and i wasn't in the mood to build any battery cables so i went back with the Orbital for exactly the same price.

I have a deep cycle oddessey battery, its awesome. Never had an issue with it. I can air up my tires, with my light on while listening to music for a decent amount of time and not have any problems with starting.
