Outback Mod. Burtman Clear Corners, 02 heads (pics!)
I've been wanting to see if the liftgate bar from a Subaru Legacy will fit on my 4Runner. For $40 I got a pretty cool mod. Maybe it has been done before, but here are some pictures.
Let me know what you think. I really like the liftgate bar, it makes opening and closing so much easier and I think it looks good (unique) as well.
I also like the Burtman clear corners and updated 2002 headlights.

I don't think I have seen a mod like that yet, looks great and very functional.
Few questions:
How did you attach on the inside?
Did you need to drill through the doorskin?
How are you sealing against water getting in between?

I did have to drill two 10mm holes (yikes!) through the metal. The kit comes with a template (for the Outback) and I took about 1 hr. making it work for me.
On the inside is a large rubber washer, same size steel washer, and a nylon lock nut (M6 X 1.0).
There are no clearance issues on the inside of the liftgate. The bar is super solid. I suppose you could bend the lift gate skin if you wrenched the snot out of it, but the directions call for only 5.5 ft.-lbs of torque on the nut.
On the outside is a foam washer and you need to use silcone sealer to ensure the water stays out.
Here is the Subaru Part Number - E7510LS002 "Rear Gate Bar". I paid $45 at the dealer, but have since seem them online for less (figures).
Do you think this will overtake the deckplate mod as most popular on yotatech ??

I did put some touch-up paint on the exposed metal. No issues with the window rolling down (thankfully because I didn't think of it until after I'd finished).
Unfortunately, I don't have a write-up. But if there is enough interest I could probably put one together.
I'll put up a pic of the fogs on asap.
If anyone else does this mod please post your pictures.

Lee - That is exactly what I was hoping would happen a cultural revolution of sorts. People might say "what - you haven't done the outback mod? What kind of off roader do you think you are?"
Thanks for helping with a silly kind of day Lee!!!

How did I miss this post!!! I was doing a search and accidentially found this.
That bar is a great idea! Looks factory and goes with the rugged looks of the truck.
