oil pan gasket

Anyone know how hard it is to change the the oil pan gasket because mine is leaking

I would imagine you just drain all the oil...unbolt the oilpan, change the gasket, and voila...all done?

Did you try cleaning it up and re-torquing the bolts? Sometimes thats all it needs. Otherwise - I haven't had my pan off yet... sorry.

Drain the oil, remove the pan, clean the surfaces of the pan and block, create a new gasket out of FIPG, reinstall.

DO NOT overtighten the bolts holding the pan in place.

That's it!

From the Manual:

Removal (Tacoma 4WD & 4Runner 4WD)
1) Raise and support vehicle. Drain engine oil and front
differential fluid. Front differential must be removed for oil pan
removal.
2) Remove lower engine covers for access to front
differential and engine. Remove front axle shafts. See
AXLE SHAFTS - FRONT article in DRIVE AXLES.
3) Place references marks on drive shaft flange at front
differential and transfer case for reassembly reference. Remove drive
shaft flange bolts/nuts at transfer case and front differential.
Remove front drive shaft.
4) Disconnect necessary electrical connectors, hoses and
tubes for removal of front differential. Support front differential
with transmission jack. Remove front differential rear mount nut and
front differential mount bolts. See Fig. 33. Lower front differential
from vehicle.
Fig. 33: Locating Front Differential Rear Mount Nut & Mount Bolts
(Tacoma 4WD & 4Runner 4WD)
Courtesy of Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
5) On A/T models, remove oil cooler line as necessary to
access oil pan. On all models, remove bolts and stiffener plate (if
equipped). Stiffener plate is bolted on rear corner of cylinder block
and front of transmission.
6) Remove bolts and flywheel housing cover. Remove bolts/nuts
and oil pan. Remove bolts/nuts, oil pump pick-up tube with gasket and
oil pan baffle plate from cylinder block (if necessary).

Installation
1) Install oil pan baffle plate (if removed). Using NEW
gasket, install oil pump pick-up tube (if removed). Tighten bolts/nuts
to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.
2) Ensure sealing surfaces are clean. Apply bead of sealant
on inside of bolt/nut holes and at center of oil pan sealing surface,
between the bolt/nut holes. Install oil pan. (67 In/Lbs) Tighten bolts/nuts to
specification.
3) To install remaining components, reverse removal
procedure. Ensure drive shaft flange reference marks are aligned.
Tighten bolt/nuts to specification. Fill crankcase with oil. On models
with Automatic Disconnecting Differential (ADD), fill front
differential with SAE 75W-90 gear oil with API rating of GL-5. On
models without ADD, fill front differential with SAE 80W-90 gear oil
with API rating of GL-5.

Matt - do you have the manual? I'll make a cd-rom copy for you if you want it.

watch out for dropping bolts. had one drop out and knock me in the tooth. went from bolting up a oil pan to getting a nail file and filing down the chip in my tooth.
