oil filter

2 quick questions, have a 03 4Runner, what is the easiest way to change the oil filter, can't seem to have enough room from the top and at the bottom the skid plate is in the way. Does it come
off or is there an access panel similar to the one by the drain plug
Also does can anyone recommend a good aftermarket seat. I
find that the oem seat does not offer enough thigh support and
I could use another inch or so of seat track travel

Welcome to the forum!

I'm not exactly sure on the 3rd Gens, but on the 2nd Gens, you have to remove the skid plate in order to get to the oil filter.

As far as aftermarket seats, I know that Performance Products carries aftermarket seats. You can do a google search and come up with a bunch of sites that have seats. I haven't swapped out the seats, so I don't know what kind of modifications that you'll have to do in order to get it to sit (pun intended) correctly.

On 3rd gens, its usually best to remove the skid plate, for two reasons:

1. When you do pull the oil filter, you'll get some that spills out. If the skid plate is on, this will accumulate on the top of the plate. If its off, you can catch most of it, and cleanup is easier.

2. With the skid plate off, you'll have more luck accessing the oil filter from underneath.

On 3rd gens, you can also access the oil filter through the DS wheel well. Not sure is the 4th gens have the same flap, or if its soild.

Jake,

You didn’t say if you have a V6 or a V8. I have an '03 V8, and I remove the front skid plate to get to the oil filter. I didn’t even really try to get to it without removing the skid plate. Oil would spill all over it, run down and spread all over the place, if you didn’t remove it. Besides, it comes out pretty easily. Just pull the four bolts out. There is a little hook that keeps it from falling down once you remove the bolts. You need to move it around a bit to unhook it.

I’m not sure if the V6’s are the same, but I’d guess they are.

Mine has the V8, I see the two bolts in the front of the skid plate
but can't seem to see the other two which must toward the back
of the plate. I know when the dealer did the first oil change there
was still oil on the skid plate which dripped on my driveway for
the next day
