as for the head bolts, get yourself a craftsman bolt-out set. it's a bunch of little socket-like tools that dig into rounded heads and broken bolts. i used it on a busted head bolt on the 22R-E in my '91 truck. the bolts that sit between the 1&2 and 3&4 exhaust ports are the ones that like to get stuck and snap. remember to put some good moly based anti sieze on them when you re-install.

Now you have a chance to make that engine look as good as your truck.

Paint time!

Cold Start Injector Time Switch

A picture worth a thousand words:

(searchable words)
Cold Start Injector Time Switch, CSI Time Sw, Cold Start Injector, Coolent Temp sensor, Intake mainifold removal, 22RE Cold Start, 22RE Intake Mainfold,

Heres a good pic of the CSI Time switch, and the coolent temp sensor, Belive it or not I spent Hours searching YT and Piarate looking for this little bugger (The CSI Time Switch that is)

Also Note the hidding Allen Head Bold under the T-Stat, You gotta remove this to get the Intake Mainifold off

Heres a better View of that sneaky Allen head bolt.

and a close up of the CSI Time Switch, and coolent temp sensor

The Whole reason for me buying this used head was for A none leaky exhaust mainifold. (My head has been tapped, helocoiled, and Tapped again)

Wierd thing is that the O2 Sensor with this head is on this exhaust mainifold while mine is near the cat

Being the fact that this 02 Sensor only has 90 thousand K on it, And the one on my truck has 250 thousand K Im going to try and use this one. Also my O2 sensor is rusted soild. Hopefully I can extend the wires to this O2 Sensor.

Timing cover wear?

4hummer. Make sure you check the timing cover for wear if the guide was broken. That was the problem on my son's 83 22r. Got a milkshke from the smallest of cracks where the chain had worn into the cover. Probably something obvious, but maybe still easy to overlook.

Not easy to over look at all. I have seen plenty of milkshake motors that had "just" had the timing chain replaced by some shop.

I will take a good look at the timming chain cover. I can see that its worn into the cover a tiny bit. (maybe a little JB-Weld to smooth it back out)

I'll hopefully have time to pull the head, intake and timing cover off my truck tonight.

Let me get back to you on that after I fix my truck this weekend.

I will weight out the intake and throttle body for you and get you a shipping quote. it won't come with fuel injectors however as I want to keep those as spares.

I'd love to throw on a cam, but funds and time are lacking,

Cam will be a future mod. for now I just want to get my truck back up and running.

22RE Oil pan removal

Another little secret found.

You can remove the oil pan on the 22RE by removing the two bolts on the engine mounts and jacking the truck up from the bellhousing.

heres whats left of my timming chain in the bottom

Yup everything was Fine. I Really dont think the 22RE is an interferance engine like everyone says, Ill post pics later to prove this.

But basically, there is NO way the valves can slam into the pistions, When I turn the valves to wide open they dont protrude past the head, and the pistons dont go up into the head either, (they actually stop about 1.5mm from the top of the block) So theres no way these two can come into contact with each other/

But yes the truck is back up and running, GREAT compression across the board, and running better than ever.

I will have up for sale shortly all EFI parts that I bought and do not need, everything from the Throttle Body (with cruise control) the intake plenum, all 4 working Injectors, Cold Start Injector and CSI Time switch, Coolent temp switch, and a bunch of other stuff,

basically every thing you see in this pic here: http://www.mudrunner.ca/engine/head/head1.jpg

I will post all this stuff on yotatech first before selling on EBAY, I can also sell everything complete which would be prefect for anyone doing a carb to EFI swap (All you would need is the Computer and wiring) if anyone is interested PM me, Give me a day or so to get the pics up.
