Yep, mine is 2WD too and hardly even touches a gravel road. I carry a lot of stuff and people in mine as well. The best part is that I paid for it, so "IMHO" I can do what ever I want with it...........oh, it is hardly driven in the rain too.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned or even thought about this, but big wheels in the 20-22" range add a lot of rolling weight that most stock brake systems were not designed to handle. You can expect to have to upgrade your braking system at some point. If you don't, you're a fool and will probably be looking for a new vehicle soon anyway, since yours will be in the wrecking yard after you couldn't stop in time for the lady you were tailgating when she decided to stop for the cute little squirel when you were least expecting it.

I recently saw a H2 with 22's while visiting Las Vegas. I almost .

So what does having big wheels have to do with driving skills? Just because I have 22s doesnt mean I tailgate people. Im competent with my driving abilities and think I'll do just fine with my "bling".

Reading all these flames about 20's and up, it makes me wonder if my little 'ole 18's make your ˟˟˟˟˟ hang sideways as well? Since I have the '03 Sport, it comes stock with larger brakes.

My post had little to nothing to do with a person's driving ability but rrather more about physics and the fact that larger, heavier rims adversely affect your overall braking distance.

yeah, so what those big mud tires dont affect stopping distance? or that lift kit that decreases the cornering ability of the truck is unsafe? you dont see me busting anyones balls about it. and as far as being a fool not to upgrade the brakes is bs. these brakes are good enough for some 35" tires so they'll be just fine on my 22s. its all a matter of opinion, and thats yours.

My my my, isn't this getting ugly. Actually you're right about the added weight from large tires, this is also a concern. The fact of the matter is that the stock brakes are not good enough for most 35" tires. However, between the substantial weight added by a larger METAL rim and the 20-22" tires, which are generally pretty damn wide as well, I would imagine that there is actually more of an issue with these. I'm not taking sides on here. Your vehicle is your own to do with what you want. And I'm not attempting to pass judgement on your choice of customizations so just simmer down for God's sake. All I wanted to do was point out a hazard that is often overlooked.

BTW, the 1999 4Runner "Highlander" comes with the sport package which ofers the larger 13" disk brakes.
