That's a water temp guage. You can see the *C on the right.

You can use any existing Bi-Xenon projectors from any car sich as Acura TL or TSX, BMW 3,5 and 7 series, Mercedes Some are bi-xenon, Nissan Murano or Maxima, Infinity FX. Installation should be similar for any projectors just make sure you have planty of room. I have write up on FX projectors

Haha, thanks. Actually they are for sale someone in Hawaii contacted me saying they would buy them, but they've flaked out so I'm going to post them up for sale in the next couple of days.

Is that a GReddy boost guage hanging from the A-pillar?
It's my transmission temp gauge. The boost is above the radio.

Man, do any of you think there is any way possible to do this to a 2nd gen? I would really like to get brighter driving lights, but having to switch on my PIAAs everytime is kinda annoying. Would be awesome to have that much light.
You could do the retro on a 2nd gen. the problem is the front glass is fluted so it won't be as nice as a clear lense, but it will still be better than stock.

Is that a custom intake/ram air I see peeping out from under that headlight?
Yes, I have the stock filler piece back in now though to limit the rain that makes it through since the ballasts are behind the lights.

How much do those E55 bixenons projectors from the new 5-series go for? Where did you buy them from?
They go for about $165-180. You can look on HIDPLANET.com in the FS section.

Would non-bi-xenon projectors be cheaper? One's without the high beam capacity?

wiring

Hey FattyCBR...I was wondering how did you wire your ballast for the HIDs....Did you run them straight to the original H4 harness or did you run a relay to power them???.....And what ballast and bulbs are you using?

Trust me, you will want high beam capability.
One of the few shortcomings of HID's is the required sharp cutoff. If you are driving down a really dark road really fast, you wont be able to see too far ahead of you. Regular low beams are ok normally, but when you're in that situation you want high beams trust me. The sharp cutoff is really sharp. So you can't really see too many things past the cutoff point.

My dad's 5 series has HID's, and even driving that, I rarely use the brights... I love the sharp cutoff. I agree the high beam capacity would be nice, but I was just thinking that if I rarely use them in a lowered 5 series, would I really need them in a tall SUV?

I'm sorry, but I think HID's should be illegal. All they do is blind everyone else, which doesn't make the roads any safer. Not to mention all the baby boomers that are getting older and will have even more trouble seeing the road when you approach them. They made high beams for a reason, use them.

I don't mean to flame, but after nearly running into a trash can when approaching a car with aftermarket HIDs I changed my mind completely. The flashing of the oncoming cars lights, plus the extra brightness makes your eyes adjust and then you can't see whats in your lane. If I had swerved I would have been in a head-on. Luckily I squeezed between the can and the oncoming car.

I used a harness I made with a relay. You could definitely melt your stock harness if you don't use one. I'm using Bosch Litronic ballasts with Phillips 4100K bulbs.

The key thing is HID kits, which cause very bad glare and are not safe for other drivers. They are illegal already and the NHTSA has already issued a recall on all kits a while ago. There's nothing wrong with factory HID systems though.
