Need Advice On Tach For 98 Tacoma

I got a '98 Tacoma... just a standard 5spd... and only 3 damn gauges... the usual coolant temp, speedometer, and gas... im wondering... can i get a dash from another tacoma that has a tach already in it? or are there some other gauges that wont hookup... i appreciate anyone who can give me good pointers on what to do bout a tach... thanx

hey, i have a 91 yota the same way, non SR5... onli temp, speedo, and gas. when i bought the car, it came with a NICE Autometer 5" monster tach mounted to the cup holder! hORRIBLE! i hated it coz it was so big so i got rid of it and gave it to my rice rocket brother.

i dont want a huge tach mounted to my dash, or nething. im looking at getting a AUTOMETER or a VDO . i want a 2 1/16" or 2 3/4" or nething smaller than 3" tachometer.

i had the same idea too, about buying a stock SR5 gauge pod and putting it in. i called the dealership, and they said i'd have to buy each meter (speedo, tach, gas, temp, oil, volt) all separate then buy the mount.... etc... and that would cost big $$$$$

so imma buy the volt and oil later and mount it somewhere, and buy the tach like next week, and mount it.... either on the steering column (coz its small enuf not to block the speedo) or in the left corner dash.

Someone with more knowledge will hopefully chime in on whether or not they are pre wired or not.

I do know that summitracing.com has a nice selection of guages and accessories, if you wanted to add aftermarket ones.

Good Luck and welcome to the forum!

it is prewired. i asked the parts guy at the dealer and he said it was. so u'd probably have to do some modifying or something.

If it is pre-wired..... ( id have to consult a wiring diagram)

Why not find a used one out of a junk yard? Perhaps they cant sell speedometers due to the incorrect mileage issue, but maybe.

AFP, you could always get custom gauges done, and replace ur whole speedo, gas, and temp gauges.

oooh, get reverse indiglo too! normal indiglo's are blinding! hehheeh, but its all preference!
