i have a 96 3.4L 4runner and i wanted to clean it the other day, went to the tread on 4x4wire and got the directions. well i could not find out how to get the actual MAF exposed, like on the pictures and i was wondering if on the 96's if they can be exposed or not because i could not fiqure out how to do it. and was wondering if other 3rd gen MAF are differnt from the 96 like mine.

I had the same problem myself, but apparently they changed the MAF design on the later 4Runners. In my search I found that you are supposed to just spray contact cleaner inside the MAF itself instead of the wires, because we do not have the screws that goes into the MAF sensor.

They changed the design in 1999 so 96-98 are like yours and 99-02 are like the writeup.
