Lift Kits??

Lift Kits??
We have an '85 4Runner. The front springs are bent up. I guess I could go to a bone yard and get some stock spring off another runner but I was thinking about a set of lifted springs. I know there are a few on the market. This is my first 4Runner. I have owned several Land Cruisers over the last 12 years. So for the price which are the best lift kits to buy? Which would you stay away from?
Also BDS is coming out with a line that is a clone of OME. They even have the same flat spot on the spring packs as on OME. But are suppose to be a lot less. Anyway have any news on these springs? I was told towards the end of Jan. 2003 but nothing on price yet.

Hello, and welcome to the forums.
Kind of depends on how much you want to spend.
I subscribe to 4WD & SUV magazine, and they just had a good tech article in there on resurrecting the older solid axle trucks and 4Runners with a kit from All Pro.
The article is not on the mags site yet, but the issue went into great detail on what they did.
New springs were put on front & rear from All Pro, and a new hanger for the front which moved the solid axle forward I believe for more travel.
Also the high cross over steering is part of the kit too.
The whole kit raises the rig high enough for 35" tires I think too.
Chris Geiger of All Pro posts here, and if he sees this post, he can fill you in with the details more.
A kit like that is what I'd end up doing if I pick up an older Toy some day.
Of course this is the most expensive route.
There are cheaper ways with just new springs for the front & rear, but I'm not familiar with them, only the article I saw in the magazine.
Just looked, and it's the December issue the article is in.
Here is a link to AP's site with the stuff on it.

And I found the stuff that was used in the article I read from the magazine.
