Which lift do you suggest?

I know that the suspention round up is in swing, but there are only 4-runners in it and Im kinda in a hurry!!!

Im looking for 4" of suspention lift (for a 90 pu) that can take a beating and still keep the front end off the ground for a reasionable price!?! I saw a 92 that claimed to have a Rancho 4" and man was it mean. I want the truck to be abble to turn right off the highway and take air at 80!!! (te he) But will settle for somthing that will last and that I can afford. What do you suggest?

ur lifting your 90 yota pickup yeah?

i have a 4"suspension lift on my 91 yota.

Rear: 3" spring lift and ext. shackles (approx 1" lift) from Downey
Front: Trailmaster 4" drop brackets.

its pretty tough, the front being ifs though, i dont go hardcore prerunner style. i like mudding and rock crawling. i will do SAS sometime next year (with FASFA money )

but if your looking to go 80 off road prerunner style Advanced Off Road Research (AOR) has a bitching IFS kit and i know DOWNEY OFF ROAD makes a bitching IFS kit with loads of travel (for an IFS). costly though... which all IFS lifts are. :T

If that's what you're looking for then I'd say save your money and just go SAS. You'll save thousands in the long run. Everybody goes through what joshik did. First slightly bigger tires, crank the Tbars, then get an ifs lift, finally they go SAS when the ifs lift doesn't cut it anymore.

Right now, I'm at the first stage.

Pardon my ignorance, but Im having a hard time with the acronim (sp) SAS!?! I figure that your refuring to a solid front axel? Is that reallly the best thing? You stand to loose a lot of driveabillity, I know check out my link! Also Id rather have a bolt on kit that wont take months on the drive way!

ps who uses which lockers?

yeh, i wish i had SAS right now... but for me... the drop brackets came with my truck and so did the 35's and lots more too. at the time of purchase, it was great, coz i didnt have to lift it. i could sport it with a lift from the start. but now, i want a SAS.

its all up to what you want to do. with my IFS drop bracket lift... it gives me more clearance... but i get horrible articulation!

if you want to be doing rock crawling and doing crazy off camber stuff, id recomment getting SAS. with SAS you'll get a lot more articulation if you get the right set up. instead of your car leaning, your axles will

if you are just going to play in the mud, go up hills, drive fast etc... you could just go with drop brackets and maintain some IFS ride comfort.

if you want to go in the mud go up hills drive FASTER and keep IFS ride comfort, then get the new A arms like chaos and downey offers.

for me, i got sick of my IFS. im too "scared" to do anything a little extreme. theres too many things on the IFS that could break. it looks too "complicated" under the wheel wells if you know what im saying. I like the straight axle, coz its simple and gets the job done WELL! all you got are your axle, driveshaft, steering, springs, and shocks (other little stuff too )

SAS and the CHaos/downey lift are the most expensive. a complete SAS with rear re-lifted i calculated to be ... about:

Complete SAS Kit: (no axle of drive shaft)
Standard front solid axle conversion kit $1,759:
Hy-Steer™ crossover steering
Weld on Shock Hoops with 5100 Series Bilstein shocks
3", 4" or 5" lift front leaf springs
1" lift Spring hanger kit with greasable shackles
Vented Land Cruiser style rotors (Allows use of IFS brake calipers)
1.5" front wheel spacer kit
U-Bolt flip kit
Steel Braided DOT approved brake lines
Bumpstops
Steering Stabilizer and bracket
Kit does not include driveshaft or axle
Upgrade shocks to 7100 Bilsteins, $220 additional

Rear lift
Rear suspension kit $659
Rear 56" long travel springs
5100 Bilstein shocks
1.5" longer greasable shackles
Rear Perch kit or flip kit
Heavy Duty spring hangers
Upgrade shocks to 7100 Bilsteins, $220 additional
Optional rear spring front greasable bolts $24 pair
Optional rear Johnny Joint shackle mounts $99 pair

thats straight from All Pro Off Road .

Yup, SAS=solid axle swap.

Yeah, you do loose some handling performance, but from what I've heard it isn't too bad. If you only want to do moderate rockcrawling then an ifs lift will do fine. I mean, you don't need a solid axle to do the rubicon or moab, but it does make it easier and you can take the harder lines. Do an internet search for SAS's on toyotas to find out if it'll work for you, it's a fairly routine thing to do.

Downey makes headers. I put a set on my Runner. It added some power, but MAN WERE THEY HARD TO PUT ON! My uncle helped me and we both have small hands, but it was still a challenge. And if you don't have a body lift on-don't even try it. I have a 3" body lift and it was still hard.

Josh, I have a huge 30 minute vid of SAS'd Tacos with some very cool music playing.

I think it's a 25 to 30 MB vid too, but I can't remember where I got it.

I bet Rob (WATRD) knows the TTORA server that the vid is on.
Maybe he can supply you the link.
It's a rad vid.
Corey
