Just bought a '99 4Runner Limited
Hey,
Been lurking around for the past week in an attempt to find which 4Runner I should snag. Just purchased a '99 Limited with rear diff lock this morning. Thought I would roll the dice and bought it off ebay (price was a couple thousand less than those I found in Colorado). Everything looks to be on the up-and-up.
Anyway, thanks to those who unknowingly provided me with a feast of information for my purchase. I look forward to learning more about my "new" ride.

The 4Runner is black and tan. I guess my first "mod" would be a tow package. I'm too ignorant at this point to know what I will do next. I figure a good six months on the forum and I'll have very good idea.
What's "the first safety on the e-locker"? Thanks!

You can also be in 4high with the locker on. Its a one wire mod, its on my todo list for this weekend.
But more importantly inspect and replace the fluids. I am one Oil change away from being 100% synthetic. Did both diffs, tcase, atf and brake fluid already.
Also call your local dealer and give them your vin, just to make sure there are not any outstanding recal issues.

Nice. Thanks everyone. I think I'll hold off on doing anything (other than fluid changes and regular maintenance) for now. I simply don't know enough yet, but you've all given me some things to do more extensive searches on.
X - I've been in Bailey for about a year and a half and I love it.
Here is a question for you. What type of differential is in the stock 99? Open diff? LSD? Just want to know what to expect when I'm in 2WD or 4WD. Thanks.

Congrats on the purchase

Go with the deckplate mod--that way you can seal it up
Congrats on the new ride.

Is there a center diff?
I'm a bit embarassed asking these types of questions after I already bought the vehicle, but I totaled a car and had to get one pretty quick.

On a 99 limited you should have the auto with the multi mode transfercase that will allow you to run in basically AWD on the streets.
If you are interested in a tow hitch I have one from my 2000 that was only used once. I live in Albuquerque, so shipping shouldn't be too bad. If you are interested I will offer it to you at less than what you could find one new. PM me and we can make a deal.
If you are curious others on the board will vouch for my trustworthiness or you can check my ebay feedback (abqjim2000).
BTW, welcome to the YT community. You bought the "right" year in my opinion. I hope you have lots of money to spend, cause mods are definately contagious.

I really wish I had a 99 or 00 Limited. I have a 97 Limited fully loaded including the e-locker, but I wish I had the Full Time-4WD, Digital Climate Control, Better Cup Holders, Additional Height, Clear Headlights, Nicer Front Valance, and Nicer Wheels the 99 and 00 offered. Good find on the 99, wish I knew more about 4Rs before I purchased mine.
