No such thing as a v6 turbo differential, not here in the US at least. Pics?

Can't tell if trolling or on crack...

Hmmmmmm...

Still would like an explaination of what a "rear data plate" is...
And like street lancer said, there's no such thing as a v6turbo... Only factory turbo ever offered was in late 80s trucks and 4runners...

Oh, and something else to think about... While the Tacoma clamshell front dif IS technically a 7.5" dif, it is reverse rotation... Meaning you can't just take older gear sets and drop them in... Tacoma and runners only came with 4.10s as the tallest gear available in 4wds...

It's not that we don't believe you because it very well could be that they did something sinister... It just seems extremely unlikely...

What ever is in it doubt very much it is a 4:10 or 4:56 gears...not even sure of the housing ....it is an e-locker from the back view that was plain enough to identify.

I too have my doubts of what is going on with your rear end. I can not see/touch it for myself, and you seem to have the correct info to figure it out, so I won't bother. Although I am curious if it is even a Toyota Axle?.

Anyways, it does seem you seem to be asking the same question repeatedly to no avail.....

The question is what geas should you go with? Most likely your truck came with 4.10s and that would be fine with 31s. If you are going to be re-doing your gears anyways, I'd go with 4.30s or 4.56s. Those will give you more torque, and room for bigger tires. I would not do 4.88s unless you will be increasing tire size to 33s. With 4.88s and 31" tires, you will not like highway cruising, as your RPMs will be too high.

A topic that has not been addressed is what gears are in your front end. Your front and rear gears must match to utilize 4WD. So I would look at identifying the front gear ratio, and just match the rear with the front. That way you will only be spending $ on 1 set.

If they both match, and are 2.73s as you say, and you plan on keeping 31s... I would replace both with 4.30s or 4.56 (prefer 4.30) and would install lockers while you are at it.

Good luck!

Let us know what you figure out and end up with.

Long Live The Yota!!!

Thanks for the info....the gears front and back must match up the 4wd works fine. I already have the E-lock feature on the truck. I am planning on keeping the same tires they are brand new Michelin's 31x10.5's. The gear ratio is the big thing not sure what to go with, 4:10, 4:56 or as you suggested 4:30 ....

You say the 4WD works fine...If you have mis matched gears, the 4WD will still work, but binding will occur on high traction areas. So if you've only tried your 4wd in the dirt or sand or mud, you may not notice the different gearing.

If you've already tried your 4WD on pavement, and did not notice binding, then the front/rear should be the same. However, if you have not tried on pavement yet DO NOT! You must identify the ratio another way. If they are different, and you try 4WD on pavement, you may cause some serious breakage.

But again, I'd go with 4.30 or 4.56.

If you do a lot of highway driving, then 4.30. If you do more starts and stops with hills and mountains, then 4.56.

If you already have the rear locked, spend another $300 and install a lunchbox locker in the front while you are in there.

Good Luck!

Gonna take some more pics, I don't know if I can get good ones of the front differential. Just hope posting the pics somebody can shed some light on this with some helpful info. Other than that just gonna have to wait till the expert with 27 years experience takes it a part and I know what I am dealing with. Anybody with an 3.4 fuel injected V6, 5sp manual, 4x4 who is running 31x 10.5 tires would love your input on the gears in your diffs. How it performance would be very, very helpful. Thanks!

Thanks for the input why a 4:30 rather than a 4:10? Is there much of a difference? I don't 4 wheel in it much. Just when back home in the winter have gotten 5 ft. snow drifts and she was great in it the way it was set up before.

Most likely 4.10 is what was stock. 31s are slightly larger than stock, and 4.30s will account for that. They will also provide room for slightly larger tires such as 32 and maybe 33s in the future. 4.10s would be fine also, but you said you wanted more torque. 4.10s will probably get you back to where you were, and 4.30s will give you a bit more and get you closer to stock performance with the 31s. 4.10, 4.30, or 4.56 would all be fine. You would notice a difference between the 3, but all would work for your setup. Going from 2.73 to any of those is a huge difference.

It's pretty easy to locate used 4.10s for cheap. But if your just going on preference/performance/versatility I'd opt for 4.30s.
