I need more power! Bigger (more amps) Alternator Question:

I've got a few upgrades planned here in the next couple of weeks that I'm sure will tax my 'top-of-the-line' napa stock replacement 70Amp alternator. Knowing that i'm going to need more power, i've been doing a bit of searching; but i haven't come to a conclusive "if you want more amps, install this alternator..." So i'm really looking for anyone who has put a hot alternator in their 3.4.

I was going to go to napa today to see if I can get an alternator for a 1GR-FE to fit with minimal modification...

Please let me know what you've done and how much work was involved...

I e-mailed Excessive Amperage and he built me a 200 Amp alt for a reasonable price. But there are other places too. Mechman.com, Iraggi and Green Machine to name a few. would try them in the order I gave them to you as far as priced lowest and reliability. Hope that helps.

Also if you do the big 3 upgrade tht will help your voltage flow.

Here is what I did to make my system independent of the truck power

The isolator power's two batteries off the alternator the left side battery( OPTIMA RED TOP very minor mod to fit it behind left headlight spin the reservoir vertical and add one hole to the top of the inside fender a 5 battery hold and your set) is stereo and extra lights and what not , the stock placed battery runs just the things the truck needs and 8000lbs winch plus if needed I can jump the truck from the extra battery.

The isolator was only 30 bucks on e-bay and the red top was on sale for 100 so it worked out way cheaper then 300 to build the alternator to 100 volts and it only took about 30-45 mins to wire the whole thing up.

With this set up I run a 1100 watt stereo system with cap
8 130 watt kc lights
4 hella 55 watt back up lights
and have no drain to the headlights or any other necessary functions of the truck(4runner) and of course not always all at once

Well I guess harley man's setup will wk, but for my personal application I am running at least 3400, watts to my stereo, I have no other add ons but I can say with the big three done I have little dimming and with my alt on I have do dimming at FULL TILT at idle.

And if you are paying more than $300 for a 100 amp alt your gettin ripped off big time. I payed a little over that for a 200 amp alt.

I guess the isolator works for that application all depends on what you are shooting for I guess.
