I'm half tempted to goto the yota dealer and see if the 130amp alternator from the 05 Taco/Tundra or the 150amp from the Sequoia will physically fit. If so, they could probably be had in a junkyard for the same cost as a craptastic aftermarket unit. The benefit here would be that it would be reliable, and also turn enough power at low RPM.

You're definately right though, upgrade those wires!

I just got off the phone with the dealer...he said it probably wouldn't work. He said it may bolt up but he doubts that it would work. Unless you wanna fab up some bracketry but he said it'll be a combo of both wiring and bolting up that will give you problems.

You should be able to pick up a 2 or 3 farad cap for around $100.
No matter how big your alternator is you will still dim lights when the amp draws huge spikes of power. The alternator cannot respond quickly enough to keep the lights from dimming but it will keep you from pulling your voltage down over a long period of time.

i think ill try a cap after i get a new alternator.
still contemplating getting a new 4-channel amp and ditching my 2-channel to power all 4 speakers.
also going to do the 'BIG 3' soon. hopefully that will help some

$195.90 plus shipping and I need your old alternator shipped back as a core or add $30.00. It's a 80 Amp alt. As for whether it would fit, you can booger anything to fit but the wiring also has to be done. I don't recomend this install. IMO..........sorry

Bump... anyone have a solution? i just installed 2 more KCs on the rack (4x150w) plus 2 55watt rear facing, plus my 4 55watt Rocklights, plus my 1000 watt stereo.... i need a bigger alternator. any suggestions?

an MR2 Alt fits our truck, I think its rated at like 100 amps, amazingly enough there is a good thread on here about some GM alternators rated at 130 amps that fit into our truck with just a couple of fender washers in the moutning point to make it the right size. Search for that.!!
