Headlight Bulbs

One of my headlights went out tonight. I would like it if they were slightly brighter. can anyone recommend a direct replacement bulb that is brighter than the stock bulbs? something like silver stars?

I did silver stars which were brighter but didn't last long. I got an H4 conversion kit off e-bay and run the ultra stars. definately better.

I run some 100/80w bulbs in my runner. They are just basic bulbs I got from knechts. they do say "off road use only" but ive never been flashed by oncoming cars. I also have some hella 700s that help on back roads.

Autozone, napa and shucks will carry street legal stuff. X2 about the sliver stars

some pics in here, https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...-bulbs-159923/ I aimed up my lights after this so the beam is much better now.

I've heard you can melt a harness with those.

What are stock, 45/65?

I could see the problem with that, 4crawler has some upgrade harnesses that would be worth looking at

Upgrade wiring then if you want more get brighter bulbs. I saw a lot of improvement by installing heavier wire and relays for the headlights on my 98 4R. I used this http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=3730 wire harness and it was a 10 minute install. I found a nice pocket for the relays behind the battery. You can buy relays and wire and make your own for less $ but the quality of this kit is very good and it fit well.

I had more than 1 volt voltage drop with the stock wiring which apparently translates into about a 30% reduction in light output. I think the thing that limits the light is not the bulbs but the voltage. Once you get full power then better bulbs give better light.

My two cents anyway.

I went with a set of sylvania xtravision's, I'm getting ready to find out if they are any better than a stock bulb or not. they have the same wattage as what came out which was 55/60 i think

I know, its really not hard to upgrade the wiring harness...I have a friend that drives a 95 P.U. he runs 100/80w H4s, stock wiring, no probs.

I just upgraded mine to be safe.

I'd say do the upgrade, last thing you want is to have a short or loose lights when you need them the most or risk a fire.

I have a set of the newer Ultrastars and they work fine and have bene in there for over a year;I got 2 and a half years out of my original set of regular Silverstars. If you have daytime running lights any pricey aftermarket bulb is a bad idea since they will have a much shorter lifespan.

these xtra visions bulbs are great, i am more than happy with them

$23 for a set and they made a huge difference over stock. I got brighted tonight and i had my dims on, so i brighted the guy back, lol

out of probably 300 cars i have passed in the last 2 nights only one brighted me so i would say they are on the verge of being to bright.

I was happy with the improvement they made too. I mine didn't last very long which some have also posted up, other they seems to last much longer. Perhaps its a electrical thing I don't know. I went to the H4 just to see if they were better and more options with bulbs. I got a set of cheap e-bay ones, the way I break things on the trail. Did break the plastic lense last winter, think ice water splashed on them. Went to wally world got a cheap set of glass sealed 6054 with the heat gun, exacto knife, and elbow grease put the glass lense on with no issues yet. Will see how they do in the winter extremes.
This are them when I got them

These are the conditions that the lense cracked

This is replacing them with the sealed beam lense, broke one on the first try. Still lots cheaper than round eyes or hella's

Not that I'm trying to change your mind just bragging what I did.

Ooops guys just realized what forumn this is in, so I'm outside of my 1st gen expertise but if you use the 6054's it'll work

Don't you loose your high/low beam and only get one or the other?

be courteous and adjust them so that they are not blinding. You might cause an accident.
