Going to buy a Tacoma but have ??'s

I'm looking to purchase a Tacoma 4x4 for a daily driver. I want to purchase an extended cab if possible, but a reg cab isn't out of the question.

I have a 19' Jetboat that weighs about 2200#'s with the trailer. Will a 4cyl stick get the job done or will I be wishing I had a V6? The boat will be pulled 300 miles 1 way from Dallas to San Antonio once a year. I'm thinking a V6 5spd, but they are hard to find.

What mpg can I expect on the hwy from a stock Ex-cab V6 w/ a 5spd? If I were to purchase a 4cyl, would I have to downshift to 4th everytime I went up an overpass at 75mph? If so, then a V-6 is my only option. Anything else I should look for?

I dont see any reason a 4 cyl wouldnt be able to get the job done, but a more desirable V6 is what you want, if your towing automactic is usually better, but it doesent really matter, get an SR5 if you can, even if you have to fix it up, because They are a bigger stronger truck.

I pull a 16 ft boat with the 4 CYL 4X4 automatic Tacoma. On flat land it is ok but on steep hills I wish I had the 6 CYL. At 65+ my truck kicks out of OD on the overpasses. Gas Mileage while towing is less than great...maybe >15MPG @ 55 MPH. Going fast in an empty Tacoma will guzzle fuel. Going 75 + and towing is a bad financial decision

Sounds like a V6 Stick is the only way to go. I drive about 300 miles per week so I need hwy mpg to be 20 on average. The Tx Hill country has tons of ups and downs so I need to be able to keep it in 5th gear w/o downshifting on road trips. Now I just have ot find one
