Thumbs up Garvin Roof Rack with custom Hi-lift mount and custom RAM GPS Mount Installed

Here's my new Garvin Wilderness Roof rack with custom hi-lift brackets. This is a nice rack and was a breeze to install (except it was ten below zero with the windchill when it put it on).

I also recently fabbed a bracket to use my RAM GPS mount. This is a slick set-up because I use the same mount on my motorcycle.

Next on my list are air compressor, suspension, and front bumper/winch . . . . All I'm waiting for now is the weather to warm up a bit. Damn I wish I had a heated garage!

Nice rack and install!
I can see you have big plans for your 4Runner if only I wasn't a broke college student! How much did that cage run you? I'm just wondering as I just got the yak and was wondering how they compared in price. How "custom" are the mounts you used. Did you order them from GW or did you have them made?

The rack was $400 delivered from Central 4x4. Best price I could find . . . I store a lot of gear on the roof

I made the hi-lift mounts from 1" angle iron and some grade 8 bolts with spacers. Cost less than $10 or so. It puts the hi-lift along the side of the rack rather than above the rack like the garvin mount. Plus I made a couple extra brackets for the other side to mount a shovel or axe or whatever.

Hey Transalper-

I just checked out your website, and I had wondered if your user name had anything to do with a Honda Transalp...LOL. I actually use to have NX 250, either '88 or '89, can't remember. I bought it used in my first summer home from college. I put on a Supertrap, made a small custom rack on the back and drove that thing everywhere around the southern NM desert. I sold it two years later for what I paid for it. Too much fun...

Looking good! Everyone should have a highlift.. they are lifesavers on and off the road! I am hoping to get my Yak installed when I get my Runner back on US soil in September!!

Absolutely! It has saved me a few times. It has also almost knocked out a few teeth.

NX250 . . .
That's a darn nice bike. The Transalp XL600V is my main mode of transportation seven or eight months out of the year. 50mpg makes up for the 4runner mileage.
