front dif leak!
I am out of town and in KC. I came out of my friends house earlier and saw fluid and looked oily. It was on the bottom of the front dif and some on the cross member and like a light 8 by 8 place on the concrete underneath. It tasted like gear oil. It looks like it's coming from the front dif gasket. I am supposed to leave in about 2 hours and drive to vail for the week. Is this going to damage my truck?
also I haven't had anything done to it recently besides getting my tires changed yesterday. Never had any evidence of it leaking before.

I'm probably going to be driving it to colorado here in about an hour unless I can find out if this will damage it. I'm worried since the CVs turn all the time.
Hell of a time for this to start happening. 2 and a half hours from home and needing to drive it another 2k miles in the next week.

You guys sound like my friends. "You tasted it?" I've never tasted gear oil before but I have a very good idea since it's so pungent when you change the . I checked it throughout the trip and it was fine and stopped dripping anything. I am really confused. The drivers side half of the diff is still damp looking with gear oil but it's not dripping or getting lower anymore. Weird.
And back to tasting it, it was like a half a drop maybe. Nothing that I know of coming out of my car will kill you or even make you sick at the point. I knew if it was sweet it was coolant. I had a guess at what gear oil tasted like and it didn't look dark enough to be engine oil.
Anyways, I made it no problem.

I thought I had the same thing over the weekend, but it turned out to be a frozen/split oil filter gasket that leaked oil on my differential and other parts below it. Just enough to freak me out and wonder if I'll have to try and fix it in my sub zero garage. I put on a new oil filter and added a little oil, cleaned up the mess and no leaks since.
